Apple recommends a Samsung folding phone in an embarrassing social media blunder

The official Apple Support account on China’s Weibo social media platform promoted a video advertisement for Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 7 by mistake.

The embarrassing post was quickly taken down, but the internet remembers everyhting—savvy users recorded the whole thing and posted it online for everyone to see. It’s unclear if Apple’s PR staff in China is responsible for the mix-up.

You’d expect people working in Apple’s marketing department to know the difference between a regular iPhone and a flip-style device from a competitor. An external agency might also be responsible. Whoever mistakenly published the wrong video file without double-checking the content probably lost their job over this snafu.

Apple recommends a Samsung folding phone

Apple is thought to be working on a foldable iPhone that should be released next year, featuring Samsung’s upcoming crease-proof display technology.

Investment bank JPMorgan backed rumors that Apple will release its first foldable iPhone alongside the iPhone 18 lineup in September 2026, pricing it at $2,000. Analysts at investment banking firm UBS think the device might start at between $1800 and $2000. Earlier reports said a foldable iPhone would start at north of $2000, with some reports even suggesting an eye-watering price tag of $2400.

In comparison, the base model of the Galaxy Z Flip 7 costs $1,100 in the United States for a 256GB version, with a 512GB option available for $1,220. However, Apple’s device is said to open on the side like a book, so it should be compared to the latest Galaxy Z Fold7, which starts at $2,000 for the base 256GB model.

The device is apparently in the prototype testing stage, with mass production kicking off in the second half of 2026. The fist foldable iPhone shpould be equipped with a reliable titanium alloy hinge and feature a 7.8-inch inner screen, a 5.5-inch outer screen, two rear cameras, a selfie camera and Touch ID instead of Face ID.
