Snapchat launches Apple Watch app so you can respond to snaps from the wrist

Snapchat has rolled out an official Apple Watch app so you can view snaps and respond to conversations right from your wrist.

You can reply to Snapchat messages using standard Apple Watch capabilities such as the onscreen keyboard, the Scribble feature, voice dictation and emoji. Before, you could only receive Snapchat messages on your wrist routed from your paired iPhone, but not reply from the watch.

It’s refreshing to see a new Apple Watch app from a major developer. Many companies have discontinued native Apple Watch apps, citing limited engagement, in favor of routing notifications to your wrist, including the biggest players like Google, Amazon, Slack, Facebook Messenger, Uber, Twitter and others.

Snapchat rolls out a native Apple Watch app

“Respond to let your friend know you’re ‘here’ when you’re meeting up at a restaurant,” reads Snap’s announcement. “Out for a run? Glance down and send a quick reply without breaking stride.”

If you’re wondering whether anyone is using Snapchat nowadays, you probably don’t have kids. Snapchat is a tremendously popular social app among teenagers. According to the company, the app is used by more than 900 million people.

Snapchat is available on iOS and Android phones and tablets, and in a browser on the web. The company is committed to providing Snapchat across all the devices you use, including wearables.

If you’ve been waiting to snap your friends on a 49mm screen, go ahead and update your installed copy of Snapchat for iPhone to get the new Apple Watch component. Just open Snapchat’s App Store page and hit “Update.” If you don’t see this option, you already have the latest version so be sure to install the app on your Apple Watch in the companion Watch app on your iPhone.
