Apple’s iOS 26 software could enhance the iPhone’s built-in Messages app with new capabilities, including polls and automatic translation.

9to5Mac reports that the Messages app on iOS 26 (and, presumably, iPadOS 26 and macOS 26) will bring a new translation capability that will enable you to translate incoming and outgoing texts when messaging anyone who speaks another language.

The translate option is already available in text-based apps such as Messages; select and hold some text to bring up the floating menu, then choose “Translate.” According to the publication, iOS 26 would add automatic translation of both incoming and outgoing messages as a new option alongside the existing feature.

The blog also claims that iOS 26’s Messages will bring polls, which is a popular feature in other messaging apps like WhatsApp and Telegram and social media apps like X. The site says polls would work in group chats, with Apple Intelligence potentially suggesting polling categories.

“Apple is also testing integration with Apple Intelligence as part of this feature,” reads the article. “For example, one possibility is that Messages could automatically suggest the poll structure based on the context of the conversation.”

9to5Mac reported other unreleased features that are coming alongside iOS 26 this fall. The Music app might animate fullscreen album art on the Lock Screen. Or, in the Notes app, you might be able to format and style text with Markdown. iOS 26 is expected to bring a glassy design overhaul across the iPhone, iPad and Mac, as well as the Apple TV and Apple Watch, bringing consistency to working across devices.

iOS 26 preview at WWDC 25

Apple will preview the key new features in iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS 26 and other operating systems at the Worldwide Developers Conference keynote on Monday, June 9. The keynote starts at 10am / 1pm, followed by a more technically focused presentation in the afternoon, titled “Platforms State of the Union.”

Following the keynote, Apple will release the first developer previews of iOS 26 and other operating systems. Versions for public beta testing will arrive in July. Apple will release iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS 26, tvOS 26, watchOS 26 and visionOS 26 to the public in September, ahead of new iPhones.
