Fortnite approved for the iOS App Store, grab it before Apple changes its mind

These past couple of weeks have been an interesting roller coaster of events between Apple and Epic Games, two large companies that have been duking it out in various courtrooms all over the world for several years as a result of Apple’s anti-competitive and predatory App Store practices, which harm developers.
Following a court order by Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers, apps began adding third-party payment processing for in-app purchases such that Apple couldn’t charge its usual 15-30% ‘Apple tax’ for doing so, which Apple previously rejected. And since this was the primary reason why Epic Games pulled their Fortnite mobile game from the App Store originally, it’s no surprise that they wanted a slice of the pie when this happened.
Epic Games’ Apple developer account was banned in the United States, which resulted in the game publisher using its Swedish Apple developer account to submit Fortnite mobile to the United States App Store. Apple took a longer-than-usual time to approve or reject the app, after which Epic Games submitted a new update that Apple ultimately rejected. Epic Games then asked the same court to force Apple to reinstate the game.
Interestingly enough, Apple appears to have finally approved the Fortnite mobile game in the iOS & iPadOS App Store. It’s the first time that the game has appeared in the official App Store in the United States in almost five years, and as for the European Union, Fortnite is also once again available in AltStore PAL, an alternative marketplace Epic Games uses to host the game in that region.
While Epic Games must certainly be feeling victorious right about now, it remains to be seen if the victory is merely temporary. Apple will surely appeal this decision, and should they win, Epic Games could end up right back where it started. For the meantime, however, the law of the land thanks to Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers is that Fortnite fans can once again enjoy their favorite battle royale game on the iPhone and iPad.
Fortnite is available as a free download from the iOS & iPadOS App Store. Make sure to download it now if you plan on playing it, since Apple could be planning its next move to reverse the decision.
