Apple TV+ will explore the life and career of the legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese in a new five-part docuseries

Apple TV+ today announced a new documentary series covering the life and career of the legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese, titled “Mr. Scorsese.”

Directed by Rebecca Miller, the five-part film portrait will feature conversations with famed Hollywood actors and directors with whom Scorsese has co-operated over the years, including Robert De Niro, Leonardo DiCaprio and Steven Spielberg.

Scorsese gave filmmakers exclusive, unrestricted access to his private archives. The docuseries will see him being interviewed with creative collaborators like Robert De Niro, Daniel Day-Lewis, Leonardo DiCaprio, Mick Jagger, Robbie Robertson, Thelma Schoonmaker, Steven Spielberg, Sharon Stone, Jodie Foster, Paul Schrader, Margot Robbie, Cate Blanchett, Jay Cocks and Rodrigo Prieto.

The series will cover Scorsese’s earliest efforts at filmmaking, including his New York University student film, along with common themes in Scorsese’s movies like places of good and evil in the fundamental nature of humankind.

Apple quoted Miller as saying that Scorsese’s work and life are “so vast and so compelling that the piece evolved from one to five parts over a five-year period; crafting this documentary alongside my longtime collaborators has been one of the defining experiences of my life as a filmmaker.”

“Mr. Scorsese.” doesn’t have a premier date yet, but we’ll keep you in the loop so be sure to watch this space.

The famous director recently appeared in “The Studio,” the increasingly popular comedy series on Apple TV+ that satirizes Hollywood. His came in the first episode includes a pitch for a movie that gets declined, prompting him to say after he couldn’t have his script back, “Just give me back my movie, and let me go sell it to f*****g Apple like I should’ve done in the first place.

Apple TV+ costs $10/month after a free 7-day trial. The streaming service doesn’t run advertising, nor does it offer a free, ad-supported tier. However, the streaming service could start showing ads at some point, as Apple has been rumored to work on a full-fledged advertising tier for Apple TV+.
