Apple releases iPadOS 17.7.8 with important security fixes and, presumably, a fix for the app logging issue
Apple has released iPadOS 17.7.8 with important security fixes, including one for the app logging issue that plagued some iPad owners after installing iPadOS 17.7.7.
iPadOS 17.7.8 is now available for the sixth-generation iPad, which was released in 2018, and the 10.5-inch iPad Pro and the second-generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro, which were released in 2017. If you have one of those devices, go to Settings > General > Software Update to download and install an over-the-air update.
Apple should shortly update its support document detailing changes in the iPadOS 17 updates with the iPadOS 17.7.8 release notes, as well as its page dedicated to security releases with the patches and critical bug fixes included in the update.

iPadOS 17.7.8 arrived a few days after Apple pulled the iPadOS 17.7.7 update following complaints that it broke many apps by causing them to log out, requiring the user to log in again as if they were freshly installed apps.
In Procreate, you’re greeted with example artworks. The YouTube app wants you to log in each time. Facebook doesn’t stay in Dark Mode. DuckDuckGo forces you to pick initial settings every time at launch. Even Steam games like Walking Dead No Man’s Land must be relinked from your Steam account every time you play them.
A developer writing on the Apple Support Community forums says that circumstantial evidences points to a programming error as the NSUserDefaults calls return the nil valu for any key entered, which isn’t intended behavior.
The problem affected all stock apps, as well as third-party apps like YouTube, Wikipedia, Duck Duck Go, Letterboxd and others. For apps that don’t sync their data with iCloud, this could lead to data loss. For example, you may lose your progress in some games after installing iPadOS 17.7.7.
