watchOS 12 might refresh the Apple Watch’s interface and bring some Apple Intelligence features to your wrist
watchOS 12 could bring several Apple Intelligence features to the Apple Watch and redesign common user interface elements with Vision Pro-inspired looks.
The Verifier claims that watchOS 12 will bring a visionOS-inspired design to your wrist. The report isn’t rich in detail, but it sounds like the redesign will be rather modest and only bring updated icons and revamped menus and buttons.
The publication has a hit-and-miss track record, so take the rumor with a few pinches of salt. For what it’s worth, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said Apple would redesign the iPhone, iPad and Mac user interfaces with iOS 19, iPadOS 19 and macOS 16 for more consistent experiences across devices.

The changes in iOS 19 will apparently focus on buttons, menus and switches, which are said to use shadows and adopt a glass-like appearance. However, Gurman didn’t mention anything about design changes for the Apple Watch’s operating system, meaning The Verifier is so far the only publication claiming this.
The refreshed design is still in development, with Apple apparently toying with several ideas for how to rearrange the appearance of the app switcher. The honeycomb grid on the Home Screen may also undergo a change.
Genmoji cretion on yourh wrist
The report adds that Apple is planning to bring some Apple Intelligence features to the Apple Watch, including AI-powered notification summaries, an AI-infused Siri and Genmoji creation. The story doesn’t say if the first Apple Intelligence features aimed for the Apple Watch are coming with watchOS 12 or a subsequent update.
Like the iPhone, iPad and Mac chips, Apple’s custom S-series silicon powering the Apple Watch includes a four-core Neural Engine, which is a dedicate coprocessor that enhances artificial intelligence and machine learning processes without taxing the CPU, the GPU or the battery.
New body gestures in the works
The Verifier suggests the current Apple Watch hardware isn’t capable enough to run Apple Intelligence in a satisfactory manner, saying Apple is working on a new processor for the Apple Watch Ultra. Apple Intelligence will apparently come to this Ultra model first before trickling down to the Series models a year later.
The publication also learned that Apple is developing additional body gestures to help users use the device without interacting with the display, similar to the current double-tap gesture. The development of those features allegedly began several months ago, so don’t take those details for granted.
