Apple Maps on the web now works in Safari on iPhone and iPad

The Apple Maps web app now works in Apple’s Safari browser on the iPhone and iPad, in addition to Mac and Windows computers like before.
If you uninstall the Maps app from your iPhone and receive an Apple Maps link, you can now open it in Safari on your iPhone or iPad via maps.apple.com. I’m very pleased that Apple has finally made the web app compatible with mobile browsers; it’s good that we now have multiple ways to access Apple Maps.
According to a recently-updated support page on Apple’s website, the web app now supports both mobile and desktop versions of Apple’s Safari, Google’s Chrome, Microsoft’s Edge and Mozilla’s Firefox browsers. Support for additional browsers, platforms and languages beyond English will arrive over time.
Apple Maps on the web adds support for Safari on iPhone
If you live in the European Union and your iPhone has iOS 18.4 or later, you can set a default app for navigation to a compatible mapping app like Google Maps. In that case, Apple Maps links that you receive from friends and click on social media and website will still open in Apple Maps on the web.
Apple Maps debuted on the web in July 2024 with most of the features from the native Maps app on the iPhone, iPad and Mac like route planning, navigation, search, guides and local businesses with photos, hours, ratings and reviews.
Some missing features have since been implemented, like Look Around, a Google Street View-like feature that lets you explore places with street-level imagery.
Apple notes that content availability varies depending on region. “To start, Maps on the web is available only in English,” rads the support page. “Maps on the web will be available for additional browsers, platforms and languages soon.”
