Some early iPhone 16e adopters affected by Bluetooth audio streaming issues

Some iPhone 16e owners have complained about Bluetooth audio streaming issues on their handset, but Apple has been mum on the matter so far.

Apple Support Community, Reddit and other online forums are filled with complaints from disgruntled iPhone 16e owners. Some people are experiencing issues when streaming audio to a Bluetooth speaker. At least one poster reported problems after connecting their iPhone 16e to multiple Bluetooth accessories.

It’s difficult to determine the scope of the problem based on social media posts. Apple on its part hasn’t publicly commented, and probably won’t give its history of refusing to acknowledge problems unless it absolutely has to.

Early iPhone 16e adopters reporting Bluetooth audio issues

One poster wrote:

Is anyone having issues with Bluetooth audio stuttering? I just upgraded to the 16e from the 13 mini and any Bluetooth device keeps hitching. The sound pauses for a second then picks back up. I’ve tried factory resetting without using an iCloud backup to see if that solved the issue but it still happening. I’m wondering if this is just early adopter troubles or an iOS 18 bug. It’s been driving me nuts!

People with this problem claim it manifests as stuttering audio, which in some cases abruptly stops. The percentage of iPhone 16e owners who have this issue is probably very small because Apple’s stores have not received instructions or talking points from the Mothership to assuage concerned customers.

One poster was told that Apple support will not attempt to address the problem because there aren’t enough complaints yet. “Everyone in this thread with the same problem: please open tickets with Apple’s help desk and be persistent to escalate it before it gets shut down,” they wrote. The person said they experienced the same problem with their replacement unit.

Only the iPhone 16e is affected; other iPhones play audio without stuttering or breaking when connected to the same headphone or Bluetooth speaker. We can rule out a hardware issue with Bluetooth radios because only audio streaming seems to be affected. Other Bluetooth connections work normally.

When will Apple deliver a fix?

Apple may deliver a fix via the iOS 18.4 update, which will arrive in April. The iOS 18.4 beta doesn’t contain a fix for the issue, but Apple is still testing the update, so there’s still time to add it.

Apple unveiled the iPhone 16e on February 19, featuring a full-screen design, Face ID, a 48MP rear camera, the A18 chip, and a bunch of compromises. The device starts at $600, $130 more than the discontinued iPhone SE.
