Apple updates MagSafe Charger firmware, but no details are available

Apple has released a firmware update for the 25W MagSafe Charger compatible with the iPhone 12 and later, but it’s unclear what the update contains.
Apple does not provide release notes for MagSafe Charger software, meaning we don’t know what improvements the new update brings to the hockey-puck magnetic charger. It’s probably some bug fixes and charging optimizations.
There’s no user-facing mechanism to manually install the update. Instead, keep your MagSafe charger connected to power and your iPhone snapped on it overnight, which will prompt iOS to eventually download and install the latest firmware.
Apple releases updated MagSafe Charger firmware with build number 2A146
The update bumps the version number from 2A143 (released in January 2025) to 2A146, displayed in the Settings apps as 136. To view the firmware version number of your charger, venture into Settings> General > About > MagSafe Charger.
Installing the new firmware requires no action other than keeping your iPhone snapped on the charger overnight, which will eventually trigger an update. There’s no set schedule for these things, so be patient and check later if your MagSafe Charger firmware is still on the previous firmware version.
The updated MagSafe Charger ($40) was released alongside the iPhone 16 models in September 2024. It supports fast wireless charging up to 25W on the iPhone 16 lineup and can also charge AirPods with a wireless charging case.
MagSafe Charger has fast-charge support

It can charge any iPhone 16 model from zero to fifty percent battery in around 30 minutes when paired with a 30W or higher USB‑C power adapter. The charging speed for the iPhone 12 to the iPhone 15 models is 15W (a 20W USB‑C charger is required for fast charging). For the iPhone 8 to the iPhone 12 models, charging speed is 7.5W. Keep in mind that magnetic alignment is only available on the iPhone 12 and later models. The accesory is compatible with the Qi and Qi2 specifications, so you can use it to charge compatible Android phones as well.
