Apple no longer selling the M2 and M3-powered MacBook Air

With the new M4 MacBook Air unveiled, Apple no longer offers versions of its MacBook Air laptop powered by the older M2 and M3 chips.
The online and physical Apple stores today stopped offering the older MacBook Air powered by the M2 chip, which debuted in 2022, and the M3 chip, which launched in 2024. Don’t worry, the discontinued laptops will continue to be available from authorized resellers and third-party sellers such as Amazon, which will continue offering them while supplies last but won’t be able to replenish the stock.
The discontinuation is the result of the new M4-powered MacBook Air that brings a 20 percent faster performance over the M3 MacBook Air along with a Center Stage camera, a new Sky Blue color finish and a $100 lower starting price.
You can still compare the technical differences between the M1, M2, M3 and M3 MacBook Airs using Apple’s Compare Mac Models page.
Apple is no longer selling the M2 and M3 MacBook Air
With the two previous generations no longer offered, would-be shoppers are faced with a simple choice: the latest M4 MacBook Air with a 13- or 15-inch display.
The iPhone maker has also lowered the price of the base MacBook Air to $999. You can pre-order the new M4 MacBook Air via Apple’s website and the Apple Store shopping app today, with retail availability beginning Wednesday, March 12.
If you don’t mind buying little-used hardware, the discontinued Airs will be available on Apple’s refurbished store for some time.
Refurbished M2 and M3 MacBook Air
Buying refurbished saves you money; Apple offers good-as-new Macs with a fifteen percent discount. The machines are thoroughly cleaned and functionally tested, with any faulty components replaced with genuine parts.
Apple ships refurbished Macs in white boxes instead of the original packaging but all of the original accessories are included, such as a MagSafe power cord and a power adapter. Refurbished Macs are also covered by Apple’s 1-year limited warranty and eligible for extended AppleCare+ coverage.
The company already offers refurbished M4 iMac all-in-ones and M4 Mac mini desktops, including a great deal on the refurbished M2 Mac mini for just $319 for the base configuration with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Feel free to browse certified refurbished products at apple.com/shop/refurbished.
