Five years after its inception, the Apple TV+ streaming service is finally available as a native app on Android smartphones and tablets.
Apple TV+ has been available since November 2019 with native apps for iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Vision Pro, select smart TVs, gaming consoles like PlayStation and Xbox and media players like Roku and Amazon Fire TV sticks. It has also been available on the Android TV streaming devices like Nvidia’s Shield TV and Android TVs from TCL, Philips, HiSense and Panasonic, according to Apple.
As of today, Apple TV+ also has a native app for Android-powered smartphones and tablets, available as a free download from Google’s Play Store.
Apple launches an Apple TV app for Android
If you’re on Android, you can now stream Apple’s original movies and shows such as Severance, Silo, Shrinking, Ted Lasso, The Morning Show and others ad-free, plus stream the entire MLS regular season and playoffs in the native app instead of using the clunky web interface at tv.apple.com.
According to the Play Store description, the Android app has most of the same features as the Apple TV+ apps for other platforms, including personalized watchlists, offline playback and synchronized playback position. You can also browse new episodes and seasons, but notifications for new content are unsupported.
Importantly, the Android app lacks a built-in iTunes Store, meaning Android customers cannot rent or purchase movies and TV shows from iTunes Store in the app, and the Library section for accessing your previously purchased videos.
Apple also said that people who use Apple TV+ on the Android TV or Google TV devices can subscribe to Apple TV+ and MLS Season Pass using Google Play billing instead of needing an Apple account for Apple’s In-App Purchase mechanism.

Apple TV+ costs $10/month or $99/year after a seven-day free trial, with the MLS Season Pass available as a $15/month add-on ($99 for the whole season).
Apple TV is also available as part of the Apple One bundle. Your subscription includes Friday Night Baseball, featuring two live MLB games every week throughout the regular season. You can get three free months of Apple TV+ by purchasing a new iPhone, iPad, Apple TV or Mac.
