The team over at Topaz Labs have rolled out a new update for their popular Topaz Photo AI software for macOS and Windows, this time bringing the software up to version 3.5.0 and introducing some fascinating improvements along the way.

The Topaz Labs team announced the latest update in a blog post and dove into the most important tidbits in detail. Briefly, the full change log for version 3.5.0 is as follows:

– Add cloud rendering for super focus
– Session resuming and crash recovery
– New lighting model (Adjust Lighting v2)
– AutoPilot will no longer recommend Text Recovery
– Improved display of which filter is currently processing
– New preference to hide all generative AI models
– Update OpenImageIO
– Enterprise users can now disable tracking, generative AI, or cloud rendering for all accounts
– Support for floating licenses
– Fix some buttons appearing clicking while images are loading
– Fixed pressing enter resulting in invalid state of export
– Update license.rtf
– Automatic lensfun update

The brand-new Adjust Lighting v2 model is perhaps the single biggest feature in this update, which delivers “more natural, vibrant, and consistent” results across a variety of images while giving end users more control and predictable behavior than the previous version of this model. This means that photographers who don’t exactly nail the lighting the first time will get a second try with this help AI model.

Another important improvement is the Super Focus in the cloud feature, which allows users to run the Super Focus AI model even faster than they could before on almost any device by performing the image processing in the cloud as opposed to on their machine. This can benefit users who don’t have super-fast computers, and moreover, it keeps the machine’s hardware resources open for use by other software. For those who still compute Super Focus on-device, the team has made serious improvements to performance on Apple Silicon so that it runs up to 40% faster on capable Macs.

Also, for those sadly inconvenient moments where the program crashes, Topaz Labs has introduced a new Crash Recovery and Session Save feature that helps safeguard your work by making sure your efforts aren’t lost because of a software crash. But with this feature, your work is saved automatically at frequent intervals so that you can pick up where you last left off if this ever happens to you.

Topaz Photo AI highlights just how AI can enhance the post production photo editing experience, and it’s one of my favorite ways to recover images that don’t exactly develop as I’d expect them to from the camera. For that reason, it’s a must-have piece of software in my book.

If you aren’t already using Topaz Photo AI, then you can purchase the latest version from the company’s website for $199. But keep your eyes peeled, because Topaz Labs often slashes that price to something more affordable.
