Vision Pro could soon get the latest M5 chip to support the Apple Intelligence features, with other surprises possibly coming via a visionOS update.
Mark Gurman writes on Bloomberg that the $3500 headset will get the latest M5 chip instead of the M2. The sole reason for this unexpected mid-cycle refresh is apparently AI. The Cupertino company is also understood to be developing a new spatial content app and an updated guest mode for sharing the headset with others.
“The company will roll out the features as part of a visionOS 2.4 software upgrade targeted for as early as April,” Gurman claims. “The enhancements will become available in beta for developers as soon as this week,” he added.
Apple could also expand Vision Pro’s availability by permitting third-party resellers to start carrying the expensive headset. To that end, it just released the new Apple Vision Pro Fit app for iPhone, which uses the TrueDepth camera to let customers determine optimal accessory sizing in the comfort of their home.
Why doesn’t Vision Pro run Apple Intelligence?
Apple could announce an M5-based Vision Pro with Apple Intelligence within days or weeks; recently, CEO Tim Cook teased on X (formerly Twitter) a new product introduction coming this Wednesday using the hashflag #AppleLaunch.

Apple Intelligence works on all Apple silicon Mac chips, including the M2 powering Vision Pro. The headset has 16GB of RAM, more than enough for Apple Intelligence.
However, spatial computing features in visionOS already utilize the headset’s hardware. Even though Vision Pro is capable of running Writing Tools, an upgraded Siri and other AI features, everyday Vision Pro operations strain the M2 chip.
The operating system is probably having issues freeing up enough system resources for Apple Intelligence. In other words, full Apple Intelligence integration requires hardware resources that are powerful enough to meet Apple’s standards.
