The new Microsoft Copilot for Mac app is now available to download from the App Store, bringing ChatGPT-like generative AI features built on OpenAI technology.

“The wait is over—we can finally hang out on macOS,” Microsoft announced on X (Twitter)! You can download the app from the Mac App Store. Copilot requires an Apple silicon Mac (the M1 chip or later) with the macOS Sonoma 14.0 software or later. Like Copilot on the web, the iPhone version supports free and paid accounts.

With the Copilot app, you can use generative AI features like text and image generation based on descriptive prompts. The app includes Think Deeper, a feature that lets you have extended conversations with Copilot using your voice and take advantage of OpenAI’s advanced o1 reasoning model to tackle more complex problems. Just a few days ago, Microsoft made Copilot Voice and Think Deeper free to everyone with unlimited use.

Like other generative AI services, Copilot can summarize, translate and proofread text across multiple languages, taking regional dialects into account. AI image creation lets you create illustrations, social media content and any other graphic from a simple prompt. You can then change drawing style, perform edits like remove backgrounds and more.

The Copilot Pro subscription ($20/month after a free 1-month trial), available in 222 markets, buys you preferred access to the latest AI models during peak times, early access to experimental features, more usage, plus built-in Copilot features in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Copilot Pro supports nearly two dozen languages, listed on Microsoft’s support page.

However, certain features such as inline editing capabilities are available only in English. Subscribers can access paid features in the Copilot apps on iOS, Android and Windows, as well as in the Edge browser, the Windows 11 Start menu and Microsoft 365 apps on the web.
