iOS 18.4 brings the Priority Notifications feature of Apple Intelligence

The Priority Notifications feature of Apple Intelligence comes to your iPhone, iPad and Mac with the iOS 18.4, iPadOS 18.4 and macOS Sequoia 15.4 updates.
Apple demonstrated this feature when previewing Apple Intelligence in June 2024. It’s since brought the first, second and third waves of AI features to the iPhone, iPad, and Mac, but Priority Notifications wasn’t among them.
With Priority Notifications enabled, Apple Intelligence analyzes the context of pending app notifications to group the important ones into a Priority section at the bottom of the Lock Screen, highlighted with an easily noticeable background.
The feature is available in iOS 18.4, iPadOS 18.4 and macOS Sequoia 15.4 betas. It will launch for all users when these software updates launch publicly in April.
The Apple Intelligence-powered priority notifications arrive
Priority notifications are turned off by default when you update your iPhone, iPad or Mac to iOS 18.4, iPadOS 18.4 or macOS Sequoia 15.4. To manage the feature, go to Settings > Notifications, touch a new Prioritize Notifications entry in the Apple Intelligence section and toggle the Prioritize Notifications switch.
The company clarifies that all prioritized notifications are displayed in a separate section at the bottom of the Lock Screen. “Apple Intelligence can show you notifications that may be important in a separate section on the Lock Screen, so you can catch up on what you may have missed,” reds the feature’s description. To quickly view all your notifications, just swipe up on the Lock Screen.
Apple says that iOS leverages on-device processing to analyze the content of notifications for importance, which protects your privacy. No notifications or related data are uploaded to the cloud or shared with Apple or other entities.

There’s no way to influence Apple Intelligence by telling it which notifications are important to you and which ones you don’t need to see. It may take some time after turning the feature on before you see a single notification categorized under priority. This feature is only available on devices compatible with Apple Intelligence: the iPhone 15 Pros and later, plus Macs and iPads powered by Apple silicon.
Priority Notifications vs. Notification Summary vs. Summarize Notifications
Apple offers many notification-related settings on iPhones with confusing or similar-sounding names. Be sure not to confuse Priority Notifications with the scheduled Notification Summary feature, which has been available for years and enables you to have notifications from your favorite apps delivered as a bundled summary.
Priority Notifications also differ from the Summarize Notifications feature, which uses Apple Intelligence to summarize long or stacked notifications.
