Apple updates firmware on Lightning version of AirPods Max to version 6F25

Apple on Tuesday released an updated firmware version for the Lightning connector version of the brand’s AirPods Max over-the-ear headphones, bringing the current firmware version up from 6F21 to what is now 6F25.
Citing Apple’s About firmware updates for AirPods web page, 6F25 isn’t a major update for the AirPods Max (Lightning), and rather it merely incorporates “Bug fixes and other improvements.” Apple doesn’t go into any detail about what those fixed bugs are or what improvements have been made, so it’s up for speculation.
Given the relatively small bump from 6F21 to 6F25, it can be presumed that the update is insignificant and that it won’t contribute to any substantial performance boosts or the introduction of new features. That said, we should not that the USB-C connector version of Apple’s AirPods Max did not receive this update – the latest firmware for that model continues to be 7A291 at this time.
To check and see what firmware your AirPods Max are running, you can ensure they’re connected to your iPhone or iPad and then navigate over to Settings → Bluetooth and tap on the information (i) button to the right of the device’s connected status in the Bluetooth devices list, just like so:
Despite the fact that you can’t manually force an AirPods Max firmware update to happen if your device’s firmware appears to be out of date, Apple does recommend the following steps if you want to help the process along. Software updates for all models of AirPods happen automatically, when the conditions are just right:
1) Make sure that your AirPods Max are in Bluetooth range of your iPhone, iPad, or Mac that’s connected to Wi-Fi.
2) Plug the charging cable into the bottom-right earphone, then plug the other end of the cable into a USB charger or port.
3) Wait at least 30 minutes for the firmware to update.
4) Reconnect your AirPods Max to your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
5) Check the firmware version again.
If you’re having trouble getting your AirPods Max firmware to update, you can also visit an Apple Store and they can help you there. But for such a small update, we wouldn’t advise this.
