Prices of all Netflix subscription plans are increasing again
Netflix prices are increasing across all subscription plans for streaming fans in the United States, Canada, Portugal and Argentina.
Remember when Netflix was just $8/month? Yeah, good times. The price of the standard Netflix subscription has been increasing steadily since 2011, and I’m sorry to report that it’ll soon cost you $18/month—which is more than double!
The streamer is also raising the prices of its other subscription plans in the aforementioned countries, including its cheapest ad-supported plan, called Standard with Ads. The new prices will take effect during the next billing cycle. The company will email affected subscribers to announce the change.
Over time, the new prices will likely be applied in all countries where Netflix is available. The move marks yet another price increase for Netflix since the last one in October 2023. The streamer didn’t raise subscription prices in 2024.
Netflix is increasing subscription prices again
In the United States, Netflix Standard with Ads will soon cost an extra $1/month or $12 yearly. The plan is increasing from $7/month to $8/month. Netflix launched an ad-supported plan in late 2022, and this marks its first price increase since then.
“We believe that our starting price” for Standard With Ads — even after the price increase — “is an incredible entertainment value. And it’s a highly accessible entry point,” co-CEO Greg Peters said. Adding an extra member to your Netflix account is also going up in price by $1 from $8/month to $9/month.
Meanwhile, the regular Netflix Standard plan without advertising and featuring two simultaneous 1080p HD streams is jumping from $15.49/month to $18/month. Paying an extra $2.5 each month for this plan may not sound too bad, but I like to analyze subscription prices on an annual basis. In this case, you’ll end up forking an extra $30 when paying for Netflix Standard month-to-month over the course of 12 months. Netflix last upped the pricing of the Standard tier three years ago.
The flagship Netflix Premium subscription that supports four simultaneous 4K streams will soon cost nearly $25/month instead of $23/month. That’s a $24 difference every year. By comparison, Disney+ is $16/month, Amazon Prime is $15/month and Hulu without ads is $19/month.
Netflix’s excuse for raising prices
“As we continue to invest in programming and deliver more value for our members, we will occasionally ask our members to pay a little more so that we can re-invest to further improve Netflix,” Netflix said in its recent quarterly earnings report. “To that end, we are adjusting prices today across most plans in the U.S., Canada, Portugal and Argentina (which was already factored into the 2025 guidance we provided in October 2024).” The new prices are reflected on Netflix’s Plans and Pricing page.
Netflix didn’t say if prices of annual subscriptions will go up, though that’s almost certain; the only question is how much money you will save by paying for 12 months of service upfront instead of monthly. Netflix added an astounding 18.9 million new subscribers in the holiday 2024 quarter, its biggest-ever quarterly increase in subscribers, and now has 300 million paying fans globally.
