LaCie announces Rugged SSD Pro5 Thunderbolt 5 portable storage drive with break-neck data speeds
A name that many on-the-go creative professionals turn to for storage solutions is LaCie, a premium storage device brand that exists under the parent brand Seagate. But even if you already knew that, then something you may not know is that LaCie came out just this week with something they’re calling the “industry’s fastest scratch disk.”
LaCie’s new Rugged SSD Pro5 comes in both 2TB and 4TB storage options with a 50GB cache and features Thunderbolt 5 connectivity built right in, which lends an incredible 6700MB/s data read speeds and 5300MB/s write speeds for those working with the most demanding equipment in the field. In fact, LaCie says the Rugged SSD Pro5 is up to twice as fast as its predecessor.
Like all of LaCie’s rugged solid state drives, the Rugged SSD Pro5 is shock resistant; its rubberized exterior bumper, made from up to 45% recycled materials, can protect against drops of up to three meters, while weatherproofing ensures an IP68-rated protection against dust and liquids.
For those wondering, the LaCie Rugged SSD Pro5 is small enough to slip into any pocket at under 4 inches long while weighing just 1/3 of a pound. It can effortlessly slip into a pant pocket or a portable bag. In fact, it’s perfect for filmmakers, photographers, and audio specialists.
In a flex, LaCie says the incredible bandwidth of Thunderbolt 5 and the data transfer speeds of the Rugged SSD Pro5 make it possible to edit 6K and 8K RAW video footage in real-time directly from the drive while connected to a Thunderbolt 5 port on a supported computer, such as Apple’s latest MacBook Pro.
While not everyone needs a storage drive this powerful, the asking price isn’t too terrible given the break-neck speeds they offer.
