Apple unleashes macOS Sequoia 15.3, finally bringing Genmoji to the Mac

Apple has released the new macOS Sequoia software, bringing its AI emoji generator, Genmoji, to the Mac following its debut on iPhone and iPad.
To install an over-the-air macOS Sequoia 15.3 update, go to System Settings > General > Software Update and follow the onscreen instructions. Aside from Genmoji, macOS Sequoia 15.3 brings visual tweaks to better distinguish notifications summarized by Apple Intelligence from regular notification summaries.
The update also brings back repeating operations in the Calculator app, an existing feature that was lost in the App’s redesign in iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macO Sequoia.
macOS Sequoia 15.3 finally brings Genmoji to the Mac
You can invoke Genoji, an Apple Intelligence feature that only works on Apple silicon Macs, via the emoji picker in apps that accept text input, like Messages. Click the Keyboard icon in the macOS menu bar where the Wi-Fi and Volume icons are and choose Show Emoji & Symbols to access Genmoji from the emoji palette.
macOS 15.3 also tames unhinged AI notification summaries that got bad press for inaccuracies (not surprising, considering Apple Intelligence remains in beta). The update disables notification summaries for news and entertainment apps until Apple works out the kinks; a future macOS update will re-enable them.
You can disable AI notification summaries for an app from the macOS Lock Screen in macOS 15.3. Plus, the notification banner now uses italicized text and the glyph to distinguish AI summaries from regular notifications. Notifications summarized by Apple Intelligence are only available on Apple silicon Macs.
Lastly, Apple’s built-in Calculator app now supports repeating operations; just click the equals sign again to repeat the last mathematical operation performed.
Apple’s security page reveals that macOS 15.3 patches several vulnerabilities in the AirPlay feature and squishes dozes of bugs. You can read the full macOS Sequoia 15.3 changelog in Software Update on your Mac, on Apple’s website and on iDownloadBlog. Not all macOS features are available in all countries and languages; check Apple’s macOS Feature Availability webpage for details.
