Apple Calculator revives support for repeating operations on iPhone and iPad
With the iOS 18.3 software update, Apple is restoring support for repeating operations in the iPhone’s built-in Calculator app.
The second beta of iOS 18.3 and iPadOS 18.3 supports repeating operations in Calculator by hitting the equals button. Earlier incarnations of the app supported repeated operations, but that functionality got lost in the iOS 18 redesign.
Before, hitting the equals sign after performing a calculation like 3 x 2 would produce an answer—in this case, 6. You could then hit the equals button to multiply the result by 2 again, then multiply the 12 answer by 2 by hitting the same key again, and so forth. 9to5Mac notes that the feature has been restored in iOS 18.3 beta 2.
Apple has redesigned Calculator in iOS 18., iPadOS 18 and macOS Sequoia. Now available on iPad for the first time, the redesigned Calculator is also smarter; you can enter math problems and the app will instantly solve them. There’s also an enhanced history tape feature and built-in unit conversion.
New features coming with iOS 18.3 and iOS 18.4
iOS 18.3 will enable support for robot vacuum cleaners so you can control your iRobots with your voice (“Siri, clean the floors”) and add compatible robot vacuum cleaners to the Home app to control and use them in scenes and automation.
Apple is currently testing iOS 18.3 and iPadOS 18.3 and should release the updates to the public in a few weeks, likely at the end of January or early February. However, iOS 18.3 doesn’t bring any new Apple Intelligence features.
For that, you’ll need to install iOS 18.4 sometime in April. The update will expand Apple Intelligence’s language support, bring priority notifications to surface what’s most important, and enable Siri improvements such as performing complex actions in apps, knowing what’s on the screen and using in-app information.
