How to fix iPhone Phone app not showing your recent calls
Find out what to do if incoming, outgoing, or missed calls don’t appear in the Recents section of the Phone app on your iPhone.
Sometimes, recent calls—whether cellular, FaceTime, or third-party—won’t show up in the built-in Phone app. This issue can occur due to software glitches, operating system bugs, outdated calling apps, or settings problems.
When this happens, it can be frustrating not knowing who you’ve communicated with recently. If you’re facing this issue, grab your iPhone and follow our troubleshooting solutions below to fix it.
Force quit and reopen the Phone app
Start by closing and reopening the Phone app. Sometimes recent calls won’t show up due to a minor issue with the Phone app, and restarting it may fix the problem.
Make sure the date and time are correct
Incorrect system date and time can lead to irritating issues such as cellular data failing to work, FaceTime calls not going through, and even the Phone app not listing recent calls. Navigate to Settings > General > Date & Time and make sure the toggle for Set Automatically is enabled. Then, check that your Time Zone is correct.
Restart your iPhone
If you haven’t restarted your iPhone in several days, turn it off and back on to reinitialize iOS and clear temporary files and caches, which may resolve the issue.
Check your FaceTime settings
FaceTime audio and video calls initiated from within the FaceTime app usually appear in the Phone app’s Recents section—until they don’t. Go to Settings > Apps > FaceTime and ensure your iPhone’s phone number is checked under the “You can be reached by FaceTime at” and “Called ID” sections.
If calls from your iPad or Mac aren’t appearing in the Recents tab of the Phone app on your iPhone, be sure that the same Apple Account and phone number/email address for FaceTime are configured across all your devices.
Allow third-party apps to show calls in Recents
Compatible VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) apps like WhatsApp integrate with the built-in Phone app, letting you see all calls in one place, regardless of the service used.
Some apps, like Signal, allow you to hide their calls from the Phone app. If calls from a specific VoIP app aren’t showing up in the Recents section, check the app’s settings for an option to enable this feature.
For example, in the Signal app, tap your profile picture at the top, select Settings > Privacy, and ensure “Show Calls in Recents” is enabled.
Update or reinstall the third-party app
If calls from a third-party VoIP app like WhatsApp suddenly stop appearing in the Phone app, try the following steps:
- Update the app from the App Store
- Enable Background Refresh for that app
- Delete and reinstall the app
Individual WhatsApp calls appear in my Recents list, but some group calls don’t. I haven’t found a solution yet, but I hope a future WhatsApp update addresses this issue.
Set the correct region for your iPhone
Go to the Settings app > General > Language & Region and set the Region to your current country. Some folks set their iPhone region to the United States to access geo-blocked features such as Apple Intelligence or Apple News. If recent calls don’t appear in the Phone app, try changing the region to match your location, then restart your iPhone. If this fixes the issue, don’t forget to switch back to your preferred region!
Update your iPhone
Bugs in the iOS version installed on your iPhone could cause incoming, outgoing, or missed calls to disappear from the Phone app. To install the latest version of iOS available for your device, go to Settings > General > Software Update.
If you’re running an iOS beta on your iPhone, be sure to share your feedback with Apple regarding the disappearing calls so it can fix the issue before the final (stable) version is released.
Try clearing all recent calls
Consider clearing your entire incoming, outgoing, and missed call logs to start fresh. This is a drastic step, so be sure to write down any unsaved phone numbers from the Recents tab that are important to you.
Reset all settings
If nothing else works, try resetting all settings on your iPhone. This often resolves issues but will require you to re-enter your Wi-Fi passwords and adjust your settings again.
