Learn how to add a sticker to a photo on your iPhone or iPad to create cool effects or hide sensitive areas before sharing.
Before proceeding, ensure you have the sticker you want to overlay on your photo. Here are a few ways to do that:
- A sticker can be a simple JPG or PNG image saved to the Photos app that you’ve downloaded from the Internet, received in Messages, or otherwise acquired.
- Create Genmojis or regular stickers that show in the emoji section of your iPhone keyboard.
- You can also just touch and hold the main subject of a picture in the Photos app and copy it as a sticker. If the image in question is on a Safari web page, touch and hold it and tap Copy Subject. In both these cases, you can paste the copied subject as a sticker over another picture.
Once you’ve ensured you have the sticker, follow the methods below to lay it over a picture.
Use the Photos app
In addition to creating a sticker, you can also use the built-in Photos app to add that sticker over another picture.
1) Open the Photos app on your iPhone or iPad and tap the picture where you want to add the sticker. After that, tap the edit icon and then hit the Markup icon from the top.
2) Tap the plus button, choose Add Sticker, and select one of your existing stickers or Genmoji from the iOS keyboard.
If you have directly copied the main subject of a photo and want to use it as a sticker, tap the plus button, followed by Add Text. Next, tap the three dots menu button and select Paste. Remember to delete the unnecessary Text box.
You can also copy an entire image in the Photos app by tapping the three dots menu icon at the top. Then, use the Add Text method explained above to paste the image over the photo you’re working with. You can either use the entire photo as a sticker or tap the three dots icon again for the added photo and choose Remove Background to turn it into a sticker.
3) Drag the added sticker to the desired spot on the photo. You can use the corner tabs to resize it and two fingers over the sticker to rotate it.
4) With the sticker positioned appropriately, tap Done twice to save the picture with the sticker over it.
Use the GoDaddy Studio app
Studio is a photo editing app loved by social media managers for creating Instagram posts, video stories, flyers, Facebook ads, logos, and more. I’ve been using Studio (formerly Over) for several years and love it.
Follow these quick steps to add a photo or sticker over another picture using the Studio app.
1) Open Studio on your iPhone or iPad and tap the plus button. Celect Image under the Backgrounds section, and pick the first picture from the All Photos tab. Then, you can work with the original size or pick another option, such as square (1:1), portrait (3:4), or Story (9:16), and hit the checkmark button.
2) Once the photo is imported to the app for editing, tap the Image option, followed by All Photos, and select another picture you want to use as the sticker. Or, if you copied the sticker to your clipboard, just tap once on the image and select Paste from the thin menu strip.
3) With the sticker added to the picture, tap the export arrow icon in the top right and hit Save. The picture with the sticker will be saved to the iOS Photos app.
Use dedicated sticker apps
You can go through the sticker collections in these apps and lay the selected stickers over your picture.
PicSee
- Open the PicSee app on your iPhone and tap Edit. After that, select the picture where you want to add the sticker.
- Tap Sticker on the editing screen and select one from the library.
- Drag, reposition, and re-shape the sticker as needed. Then, tap the Save button.
Kawaii Photo
- Launch the Kawaii Photo application on your iPhone and hit the Photo Editor button, followed by Gallery. Pick the image you want to spice up with one or more stickers.
- Once you’re on the editing screen, select a sticker from the bottom row.
- Finally, tap the floppy disk icon from the top right to save the picture to the Photos app.
Watermark
- Launch the Watermark app and tap the plus button. Select the picture you want to work with.
- Tap Stickers from the bottom row of menus.
- You can now select from Symbols, Giphy’s vast library, or Stock stickers. Try them out and tap a sticker.
- With stickers added to the image, tap the share button in the top right and select Save Image on the iOS Share Sheet.
Many social media apps like Instagram and Snapchat allow you to add stickers over photos before you post them. However, you may be limited to choosing a sticker from their bundle and not necessarily a custom sticker image saved to your iPhone’s Photos app.
Still, if you’re interested, you can learn about them in our tutorial, where we explain how to add emojis to your photos before posting to social media.
Use other photo editing apps and websites
Finally, if you already use a photo editing service like Canva, explore it, and chances are you will notice an easy way to add a photo sticker over another image. Relying on an app you already use is ideal as you don’t have to download another app, and there is no learning curve.
