Apple’s Home app on iPhone, iPad and Mac will not add support for robot vacuum cleaner devices this year. Instead, this handy feature is coming in 2025.

Apple has updated its page dedicated to the Home app, which now says that support for robot vacuum cleaners will arrive in early 2025, MacRumors noted. “Feature will be available in early 2025,” reads the updated fine print.

“Apple said at WWDC in June that the iOS 18 feature would arrive later in 2024 – presumably with iOS 18.2, due this month–but that’s apparently no longer the case,” the publication said.

Both Samsung and Apple have said that their respective platforms will support robot vacuum cleaners via Matter. Samsung’s SmartThings platform now supports robot vacuum cleaners, but Apple users will need to wait a little bit more.

Apple Home to support robot vacuum cleaners via Matter

The Matter 1.2 specification brought support for robot vacuum cleaners to start and stop these accessories, adjust cleaning modes, power controls, vacuuming, mopping and charging status, among other things, receive notifications and alerts, use them in your own automations (to schedule cleanings while away at home), and more.

Yo’ll also be able to control compatible robot vacuum cleaners using the Siri assistant. “Controlling robot vacuums with Siri will be available in English (U.S.) only,” Apple clarified. This feature will let you ask Siri to clean a specific room. We’ve rounded up some of the best robot vacuum cleaners for those interested.

iOS 18’s Home app has brought other new features such as guest access, hands-free unlocking of smart doors with the new Express Mode, seeing your electricity usage at a glance (starting with Pacific Gas and Electric Company) and more.
