PSA: USB-C Magic Keyboard, Trackpad and Mouse require macOS Sequoia 15.1
Owners of USB-C versions of Apple’s Magic Keyboard, Magic Trackpad and Magic Mouse report that these accessories require macOS Sequoia 15.1 to work properly.
Apple unveiled USB-C versions of its Magic Keyboard, Trackpad and Mouse alongside M4-based iMac, Mac mini and MacBook Pro earlier this week.
You’d expect swapping Lightning for USB-C would “just work,” but that doesn’t seem to be the case. Per complaints on MacRumors forums, these accessories require macOS Sequoia 15.1 and don’t work properly on earlier versions.

“There are reports from users running macOS Sonoma and Ventura who are having issues with the new devices,” wrote July Clover, reporting for MacRumors.
“With the keyboard, Touch ID and function keys don’t work, and with the Magic Mouse, the scrolling doesn’t function,” she continued. “In some cases, the accessories are recognized as older devices, inhibiting proper functionality.”
There is definitely something about earlier macOS versions preventing these accessories from working properly because affected people have confirmed that installing macOS Sequoia 15.1 does fix the issue. This is almost certainly a bug.
Other USB-C keyboards and mice work on macOS without installing the latest update. When browsing the Magic accessories on the online Apple store, the System Requirements section doesn’t mention macOS 15.1 at all.
Some posts claim the issue persists in the first macOS Sequoia 15.2 beta. “It appears that the macOS Sequoia 15.2 beta was released before Apple could add in support for the new Magic Mouse, Magic Keyboard and Magic Trackpad,” explained Clover.
