Rumor: iOS 18.1 with Apple Intelligence to release on October 28
Apple is rumored to release iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1 and macOS Sequoia 15.1 with the first Apple Intelligence features on Monday, October 28.
That’s according to Mark Gurman, who wrote on Bloomberg that the operating systems will be arriving on October 28, not sooner. iOS and iPadOS 18.1 and macOS Sequoia 15.1 are in their fifth beta, and there will probably be one more beta before a Release Candidate (RC), the last step before the public release.
“The company has been clear that Apple Intelligence will be arriving in October as part of the iOS 18.1 operating system,” Gurman wrote. “But now I can provide a little more detail on when in the month it’s supposed to arrive: Monday, October 28.”
“That means new iPhone buyers will have to wait a few more weeks to get the most hyped component of their devices,” he continued. “I’m told that Apple is taking its time with the rollout to ensure that major bugs are eliminated and it can support all the new traffic on its AI cloud servers.”
Rumor: iOS 18.1 with Apple Intelligence due October 28
Apple Intelligence will debut with a subset of the features Apple announced at its Worldwide Developers Conference in June. The first batch will include AI writing tools, object removal with seamless background replacement in Photos (called Clean Up), a new Siri glow animation and interface, notification summaries, smart replies in Messages and Mail, and other capabilities.
Later this year, probably in December, iOS 18.2 will bring additional generative AI features such as ChatGPT integration, AI image creation (called Image Playground), the ability to create emoji from prompts (called Genmoji) and expanded English language support in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, and the U.K.
This will be followed by iOS 18.3 in early 2025 with new Siri features allowing the assistant to invoke features in apps and parse complex commands into a series of actions chained together, including personalized responses based on your own content, contacts, calendars, emails, etc.
Apple Intelligence language support
Apple will continue rolling out the Apple Intelligence features throughout 2025, including support for additional languages and regions. The company has confirmed that additional Apple Intelligence languages will include English (India), English (Singapore), Chinese, French, Japanese, Spanish, German, Italian, Korean, Portuguese and Vietnamese.
Apple Intelligence in iOS 18.1 has a waitlist and carries a beta label. Apple Intelligence requires the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max and the iPhone 16 lineup with the Siri language and regional settings set to U.S. English.
