Photoshop maker Adobe unveiled the next batch of AI-powered tools at its annual MAX conference that are now available across the Creative Cloud suite.

Adobe was the first major developer to popularize AI-powered tools such as content-aware fill and seamless background removal. Today, it unveiled a more capable Firefly generative AI model (launched in beta in April) capable of more complex prompts and producing images of notably higher quality than before.

Major Creative Cloud apps also benefit from the improved AI model. Plus, the newly introduced V4 update to Frame.io makes the collaboration platform available to all subscribers, and it now includes a ton of new features.

Photoshop, which uses the new FireFly model, can automatically select all objects on an image, saving you from tedious manual work. The app can also detect distractions in your photographs, such as people photobombing your shot or unimportant objects ruining the composition, such as wires and cables, then remove them and replace the background seamlessly. The feature, called Distraction Removal, is similar to Google’s Magic Eraser and Apple’s Clean Up tools.

It’s available in Photoshop’s desktop and mobile apps as part of the Remove tool but will expand to other apps later. Speaking of the Remove Tool, you can now choose whether it uses the latest Firefly image model, avoids generative AI entirely, or automatically selects the appropriate option based on the image and scene.

Photoshop’s existing AI features like Generative Fill, Generative Expand, Generate Similar and Generate Background now take advantage of the latest Firefly 3 model.

An enhanced Image Trace feature in Illustrator is now capable of rendering crisper vectorized outputs with cleaner lines that Adobe claims are more accurate to the original image. Illustrator also gained a new feature, dubbed Objects on Path, for moving multiple objects along any path shape with ease.

In Premiere, subscribers can now use the AI video creation feature Adobe’s been teasing for a while, allowing you to generate video from still images and text prompts. Adobe has managed to bring AI-powered video creation to the masses ahead of OpenAI’s Sora and Google’s Veo, which is impressive.

Premiere Pro has gained a new Generative Extend feature thanks to the Firefly AI Video Model. Available as beta, Generative Extend can extend the end or the beginning of your clip by up to two seconds. However, the feature is limited in terms of resolution and frame rate; it can only output 720p or 1080p video at 24 fps.

The new features will roll out to Creative Cloud subscribers automatically, or you can manually check for updates to get them. For further information about everyone Adobe announced at the MAX 2024, visit the Adobe Newsroom and the Adobe Blog.
