The Shazam mobile app for iPhone now supports Apple’s Music Haptics feature in iOS 18 that plays vibrations and taps set to a song’s beat.

“With the release of iOS 18, Shazam now supports Music Haptics,” according to release notes accompanying Shazam 18.0 for iOS. “This feature syncs taps, textures and vibrations to supported songs, making music more accessible to more listeners” through tactile feedback, it reads. If your installed copy of Shazam is not up to date, open the Shazam page on the App Store and click the Update button.

Shazam for iPhone now supports Music Haptics

Music Haptics is among Apple’s new accessibility features available in iOS 18. Regardless of your hearing, Haptics enables anyone to feel the music through refined vibrations, courtesy of the iPhone’s Taptic Engine. These physical taps and vibration patterns are set to a song’s audio.

Shazam is owned by Apple, which continues to update the standalone app even though Shazam’s engine is built into its software platforms. For example, Shazam was recently updated with support for the Live Activities feature for improved multitasking while using the app.

Shazam integration lets you identify music on Apple devices just by asking Siri. On your Mac, iPhone, and iPad, you can invoke Shazam through the Control Center to identify music playing in apps and through your headphones.

Music Haptics prerequisites and how to turn it on

The Music Haptics feature works with songs in Apple Music, Apple Music Classical, Shazam (for songs linked via Apple Music, not Spotify) and compatible third-party apps. Some Apple Music songs may not support Music Haptics. The feature requires an iPhone 12 or later. The iPhone SE 3 doesn’t support Music Haptics. Your iPhone must be connected to Wi-Fi or cellular for Music Haptics to work.

You can turn on Music Haptics in Settings > Accessibility > Music Haptics under Hearing. iOS 18’s redesigned Control Center includes a Music Haptics control you can add as a tile. Since the iPad doesn’t have a Taptic Engine, the Music Haptics feature is unavailable on Apple tablets.
