Apple has removed the supporting iPhone apps for the Beddit sleep monitor accessory that it acquired back in 2017 but no longer sells.

The apps were taken down sometime last week, but MacRumors couldn’t confirm whether the Beddit apps continue functioning for existing customers. Beddit is a hardware accessory just 2mm thin which goes under your sheets to provide automatic sleep tracking for up to two people in bed.

The Beddit app was used to interpret sleep data, but Apple most likely pulled it as the hardware already integrates and saves data into the Health app (which supports sleep analytics like the Beddit app).

Besides, Apple Watch already tracks your sleep, with the ability to review logged data in the Health app. There’s no reason to continue providing a separate app for what is literally the same functionality as the Health app.

The Beddit apps support setting goals for your bedtime and sleep time. Every morning, you’d wake up to the results of your sleep in the app. Other features included weekly reports, graphs measuring the quality of your sleep throughout 7, 30 or 90 days, bedtime reminders, and more. All of the above features are available in the Health app when tracking your sleep with an Apple Watch.

Sleep analysis included measurements like sleep time, bedtime, time to fall asleep, time awake, time away from bed, wake-up time and sleep efficiency. Most of these metrics are also available in the Health app. However, there’s one metric that the accessory tracks, which is unavailable with sleep tracking on Apple Watch: time spent snoring. Apple Watch also detects sleep apnea but does not detect snoring (there are third-party apps for that).

The Beddit accessory is packed with sensors to measure humidity and temperature, including sensors to detect force and touch. These sensors capture your average breathing rate during sleep and calculate your average, highest and lowest heart rate. Your Apple Watch also records your respiratory and heart rates.

Following its 2017 acquisition of the Beddit startup, Apple has continued selling the accessory until 2022, when it stopped offering the sleep monitor via its online store. The product is unavailable on Amazon, but the official Beddit website is still live.
