WaterField launches the new Vitesse Backpack in time for back-to-school
Meet the inaugural backpack in WaterField’s new Vitesse Collection of American-made, waxed canvas backpacks with a vintage look.
The August-September period is the busiest season in education. With back-to-school approaching fast, folks are shopping for backpacks. Right on time, San Francisco-based WaterField Designs has just announced the first backpack in its new Vitesse Collection of classic waxed canvas bags with a modern twist.
The unlined Vitesse Backpack combines a vintage aesthetic with thoughtful solutions like a laptop pocket, a metal paragliding-style buckle and YKK waterproof zippers. It has enough space and compartments to carry a 16-inch MacBook Pro, lunch, light jacket, and other necessities.
This is also a nice bag for short trips and exploring urban environments. Starting today, the Vitesse Backpack is available to order from the WaterField Designs website. Shipping begins Friday, August 9, 2024.
Back-to-school and back-to-work with the new American-made Vitesse Backpack
The Vitesse Backpack is quintessential American craftsmanship, made from waxed canvas to gibe it water-resistant properties and that aged appearance.
I’ve tried and reviewed several WaterField accessories that use waxed canvas, and I’ve had no complaints whatsoever. According to WaterField’s press release, the canvas is based on cotton and treated with wax to “create lifelong resistance to inclement weather while remaining breathable.” Everything is waterproof, from the waxed canvas material to the dual-sided zippers, the neoprene straps, etc.
The top opening expands wide to provide easy access to the inside. I never liked how a nearly empty backpack dangles on my back like a dead fox, but WaterField has a solution—you can optionally pin down the outer edges to the sides of the backpack using G-hooks on either side to maintain the backpack’s streamlined shape!
Pricing and availability
This backpack measures 15.5 x 12 x 8 inches and weighs 2 pounds (about 900 grams). It’s available in blue or brown, priced at $219. You can order yours from the WaterField Designs website, with shipping set to begin Friday, August 9.
WaterField designs and manufactures its precuts in San Francisco instead of outsourcing production to China, ensuring products are made just right.
Because it’s more expensive to make anything in the United States, WaterField sells its bags, cases and other products directly to consumers through its website. The company doesn’t offer any products on Amazon or engage in aggressive affiliate marketing to push its products in paid articles.
