Owners of Rivian’s electric vehicles (EV) can now connect their Apple Music account to stream music in the car in immersive spatial audio.

Apple Music is natively available starting today across all of Rivian’s electric vehicles. If you’re a proud owner of a Rivian EV and have an Apple Music subscription, install the latest over-the-air update and connect your account to interact with Apple Music through the car’s center display. A Connect+ subscription is required.

“To stream Apple Music in any Rivian, from anywhere, Apple Music subscribers can sign up for Connect+, available at $14.99 a month or annually for $149.99,” the company noted. This is nothing new as most other EV makers put advanced features requiring online connectivity behind a paywall, including Tesla, which requires a Premium Connectivity subscription to use streaming services in the car. Thankfully, Rivian will treat each new vehicle owner to a two-month free trial of Connect+ and a generous three-month free trial of Apple Music.

The spatial audio option reveals “more depth, clarity and details in your favorite music,” reads the official announcement on the Rivian website. The spatial audio option is available in first- and second-generation vehicles equipped with Rivian’s premium sound system.

“Apple Music’s deep integration into Rivian’s software platform enables listeners to easily search and browse through its catalog of over 100 million songs and over 30,000 expertly curated playlists, enjoy access to its global live-streaming radio stations and more.”

The announcement praises a “significant technical collaboration with Apple’s engineers” on integrating Apple Music into Rivian while providing interesting stats regarding spatial audio. Over 90 percent of Apple Music listeners have tried the spatial audio option, with those plays accounting for nearly one-third of all plays on the platform and the number of songs available in spatial more than quadrupling over the last two years.

Rivian doesn’t support Apple Podcasts yet, unlike Tesla which rolled out support for Apple Podcasts across the Model S, 3, X, Y and Cybertruck in December 2023.
