iPhone SE 4 expected to gain a 48M camera and finally ditch the Home button
Apple is rumored to equip the next iPhone SE with a higher resolution camera while modernizing the appearance by ditching the Home button.
The iPhone SE, Apple’s lower-cost smartphone, should no longer be stuck in the past in terms of appearance come 2025.
According to leaker Ice Universe in a post on Weibo, the next iPhone SE coming in spring 2025 should supplant its Home button and Touch ID with a fullscreen design, rocking Face ID and a notched screen the iPhone X pioneered in 2017. If so, it will have been eight years since the iPhone SE adopted a Face ID appearance.
Rumor: iPhone SE 4 to gain a 48MP camera
Ice Universe claims the next iPhone SE will refresh the rear camera with a new 48-megapixel sensor, a major upgrade from the handset’s 12-megapixel camera.
The iPhone 14 Pros were the first models to incorporate a 48-megapixel sensor with pixel binning for the rear shooter. This year’s iPhone 16 Pros should update the ultra-wide camera with a 48-megapixel sensor. In 2025, the iPhone 17 Pro Max should debut a 48-megapixel triple camera system.
Ice Universe also learned that the iPhone SE 4 will have a larger display at 6.06 inches versus the current 4.7-inch LCD screen. These will be OLED panels, so expect perks like blacks, high brightness and contrast, HDR video support, etc.
When will iPhone SE 4 come out?
The iPhone SE 4 should arrive between March and May of 2025, priced between $499 and $549, claims the leaker Ice Universe.
The handset should run Apple’s A18 chip that will debut in this year’s iPhone 16 models, equipped with 6-8GB of LPDDR5 memory. The leaker added that the iPhone SE 4 will ditch the Lightning port for USB-C, hardly a surprise as Apple has transitioned nearly all its devices to USB-C to comply with the EU requirements.
Another leaker recently pinned the iPhone SE 4’s starting price at $429 in the United States, matching the starting price of the current iPhone SE 3, but they don’t have an established track record, so the information may be incorrect or speculative at best.
