Epic Games has announced that Fortnite for iPhone will be available to customers in the European Union in a matter of a few months.

The game will be available through the Epic Games Store, whose storefront app has already been submitted to Apple for notarization. “Targeting the next couple months for the store and Fortnite on iOS in the EU,” the Epic Games Newsroom wrote on X.

Apple now permits alternative app stores, external web payments and web distribution for third-party iPhone software in the European Union to comply with the bloc’s Digital Markets Act which aims to make the digital economy fairer.

Both the iPhone and iPad versions of Fortnite will be available to download as the European Commission designated both iOS and iPadOS digital gatekeepers.

Fortnite is coming to iPhone in the EU in a few months

In February, Epic announced it had begun development work on the Epic Games Store for iOS. Epic will operate the iOS store through its Swedish subsidiary. At the time, Epic said it would re-launch Fortnite on iPhone in the EU sometime in 2024.

“We’re determined to launch on iOS and Android and enter the competition to become the #1 multi-platform software store, on the foundation of payment competition, 0-12 percent fees and exclusive games like Fortnite,” Epic CEO Tim Sweeney wrote on X.

In today’s post, however, Epic said it planned to bring its games to other mobile app stores. “We want to talk with all stores that offer great terms to all developers.”
