Apple Intelligence will arrive alongside iOS 18.1 in October, and Apple has now released new betas to test the upcoming AI features.

The latest downloads are available alongside the current iOS 18.0, iPadOS 18.0 and ‌macOS Sequoia‌ 15.0 betas which exclude Apple Intelligence.

There’s a catch though. Apple Intelligence requires the A17 Pro chip on the iPhone side, so you’ll need an iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max to download and install the beta. The same goes for your Macs. The system requirements for Apple Intelligence mention an Apple silicon chip in your Mac or iPad, so you’ll be out of luck unless your computer or tablet is powered by Apple’s M1 chip or later.

The iOS 18.1 developer beta includes Apple Intelligence

After installing the new betas, Apple Intelligence must be manually turned on in the Settings app on your iPhone and iPad or System Settings on your Mac, but there’s a waitlist. The features include writing tools with summarization capabilities, systemwide transcripts, an overhauled Siri design with an animated glow running around screen edges instead of an orb, smart replies in Messages and Mail, creating slideshows in Photos using natural language, and others.

Not all announced Apple Intelligence features will be available when iOS 18.1 launches in October. Some, like ChatGPT integration in Siri, Image Playground, Genmoji, smart erase in Photos, Siri onscreen awareness, and others, will arrive in the first half of 2025 alongside iOS 18.4. Also worth noting is that Apple Intelligence will launch with a beta flag.

If you already have the developer or public beta of iOS 18.0 installed on a compatible device, you can switch to the new beta in Settings > General > Software Update. Otherwise, you must visit Apple’s developer portal (no membership required) and download the install image to restore your device.
