Welcome to the [extra long] weekend everyone! It’s time for another Apps of the Week roundup. This week we have some great picks for you including a powerful text customization tool, a new kind of social media app, and an easy-to-use journaling app. And as always, we’ve selected a fun new game for you to check out.

Text Workflow: Text Processing

Text Workflow is a powerful yet easy to use app that helps you transform your text on the fly. Whether you are a programmer who needs to convert YAML to JSON or a journalist with strict copy guidelines, TW is here to help. Features include more than 45 text transformation actions, the ability to count words, characters, and lines, and you can even chain multiple actions together to create your own workflow, which you can then share with others. Whether you need something like this or not, you have to admit, it’s pretty impressive.

Maven: The Serendipity Network

This app got me with its tag line: “interests, not influencers.” That’s a paradigm-shifting kind of statement. Now whether it’s going to work or not, is a different story. Meet Maven, a unique approach to social media that believes people’s connections should revolve around their genuine passions and ideas, rather than trending topics and follower counts. On this platform, every thought holds significance, and every valuable idea receives equal exposure. Again, it’s a really cool concept, but it seems like these things so often flame out before gaining any real traction. Here’s hoping this one manages to find an audience.

ULY – Diary with lock

If you still haven’t found the “right” journal app for you, you might consider giving ULY a shot. It’s a modern journal app with advanced text formatting, timeline and calendar modes, and support for attachments like photos and videos. It also has guided journal prompts to help get you going, and as the name suggests, you can lock it with Face ID to protect your privacy. I don’t know how this compares, feature for feature, to other journal apps, but it seems like this one is all least worth checking out.

Basic Biking

This week’s game is pretty simple and straight forward. In fact, some might even call it ‘basic’ (see what I did there?). Anyway, here is a 2-button, old-school arcade game in which you must work your way through challenging levels on a bicycle as fast as you can, without wiping out. The controls are also super ‘basic’: tap the front button to pedal and the rear one to brake. You get 7 tracks to play through, and then an endless track that allows you to play forever. You can also unlock a mini bike, e-scooter, a courier mode, and more. The game is totally free with no ads, IAPs or data tracking, making it the perfect title to check out this weekend.
