Rumor: A new “significantly slimmer” iPhone 17 model coming in 2025 with rear cameras at the top center

Apple is rumored to launch a redesigned iPhone 17 next year that should be slimmer and cost more than the flagship iPhone Pro Max model.
The regular iPhone 15 models are 7.8mm thick while the iPhone 15 Pros are 8.25mm, but now a new report from The Information alleges that this new iPhone 17 model (codenamed D23 internally) will bring a “major redesign” akin to the iPhone X.
“Apple is developing a significantly thinner version of the iPhone that could be released as early a 2025, according to three people with direct knowledge of the project,” the site claims. But will it be thinner than the new iPad Pro, the thinnest device Apple has ever produced? The Information wouldn’t say.
Apple is redesigning the iPhone to be significantly slimmer
The site does, however, state that one of the changes might include relocating the rear camera system to the “top center” of the device. The Information thinks the slimmer iPhone could have a higher price tag than Apple’s flagship iPhone Pro Max model, which starts at $1200. If true, this device will become the new flagship model.
The site hasn’t learned about the other potential features and changes that would warrant the higher price tag. The report says the phone will sport a narrower Dynamic Island out the front, with a screen size between 6.1 and 6.7 inches.
Apple introduced the notch with the redesign brought by the iPhone X, which morphed into the Dynamic Island feature starting with the iPhone 14 Pros, which is basically a pill-shaped cutout. Apple was at one point rumored to swap the Dynamic Island for a pinhole cutout.
The iPhone Plus is going away
The Information says the all-new iPhone 17 model could replace the iPhone Plus in the 2025 lineup because that model has been selling “below expectations.”anonymous sources.
Some analysts believe this year’s iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will feature bigger screens, going from 6.1 and 6.7 inches to 6.3 and 6.9 inches, respectively, while the iPhone 16 Plus would remain in the lineup.
