iPhone 16 Pro may use a stainless steel battery case to prevent overheating

Overheating shouldn’t be a problem with the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro Max, as Apple is said to use a stainless steel case for the battery.
That’s according to Ming-Chi Kuo, a generally reliable Apple analyst who has sources deeply entrenched in the Asian supply chain feeding him information.
Some iPhone 15 Pro owners complained about overheating, which Apple fixed with a software update. Using stainless steel as a thermal solution may help, but Kuo hasn’t said whenever the regular iPhone 16 Pro model will use this trick.
“The use of a stainless steel battery case also reduces the difficulty of removing the battery, which will help Apple comply with the European Union’s requirements for mobile phone batteries’ replaceability in the future,” Kuo wrote on Medium.
But will the iPhone 16 Pro Max have a longer battery life?
The analyst says the energy density (Wh/kg) of the iPhone 16 Pro Max’s battery cells will increase, which may result either in “longer battery life with the same battery size or lower battery size with the same battery life.”

Our money is on roughly the same battery life as the iPhone 15 Pro Max instead of a longer battery life. That’s because Apple tends to optimize the features set to meet specific battery life. The iPad has had different batteries over the years but is consistently rated with the same 10-hour battery life.
From Kuo’s report:
Stainless steel is not as effective as aluminum in dissipating heat, but it is more robust and less susceptible to corrosion, so in addition to dissipating heat, the stainless steel battery case provides better protection for the battery and the iPhone system.
The iPhone 16 Pros are rumored to adopt larger screens, with the iPhone 16 Pro rumored to go from 6.1 to 6.2 inches and the iPhone 16 Pro Max from 6.7 to 6.9 inches. The bigger screen will consume extra power.
