A job listing indicates that a native Apple TV app to stream Apple TV+ shows and movies on Android phones and tablets is in development, at long last.

The Apple TV app is available on Windows, Android TV and other platforms, but Apple never ported it over to the main Android OS for phones and tablets.

But that could change soon, as the Cupertino company appears to have kicked off development work on a version of the TV app for the Android platform.

A native Apple TV Android app is in development

Mark Gurman wrote on Bloomberg that a new job ad from the iPhone maker published on May 25 seeks a “Senior Android Engineer” to “help build an application used by millions to watch and discover TV and sports.”

Android users can stream Apple TV+ shows on their smartphones and tablets using the web interface at tv.apple.com. Of course, a native app would provide a smoother experience and features like offline downloads that don’t work on the web.

The TV app also includes access to users’ movie and TV show downloads purchased on the iTunes Store. The software is available on the iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, Roku, Android TV, Samsung TV, game consoles and some cable boxes.
