How to have your iPhone remember where you parked your car
In this tutorial, we will show you how to have your iPhone automatically or manually remember the location of your parked car so it’s easy to find it later.
Your iPhone can remember where you parked your car and help you get directions to it. But that’s not all! It can even tell you for how long you parked it, which can be useful if you’re parking at a location that charges by time. It also lets you manually adjust the parking spot, share the location with others, write a note, or add photos.
I particularly like the option to add photos as it lets me take a picture of the parking receipt and save it in case I misplace it.
Overall, it’s a super thoughtful feature, and here’s how you can make the most of it.
Have your iPhone automatically remember where you parked your car
- Open the Settings app on and tap Maps.
- Make sure Show Parked Location is switched on.
- Now, connect your iPhone to CarPlay or the car’s Bluetooth system and go on your journey.
- When you disconnect the iPhone from CarPlay or your car’s Bluetooth and exit it, Apple Maps will drop a pin at this location. You will get a parked car notification on your phone. Tap it or use the Apple Maps app to get directions to your car when you return (explained below).
If it does not work
Your iPhone will purposefully ignore the location of your car at places where you park frequently, like your home or office. However, if you can’t get it to work even at new locations, here are some quick tips to fix it.
- Update your iPhone to the latest iOS version.
- Restart it regularly.
- Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services and make sure it’s on.
- Next, scroll down the Location Services screen and tap System Services. Make sure Significant Locations is on. If not, tap it and flip on the switch for Significant Locations.
Ask Siri to remember where you parked your car
If your car does not support CarPlay or Bluetooth, you can always ask Siri to remember where you parked.
- Invoke Siri on your iPhone or even iPad.
- Tell Siri ‘Remember I parked my car here.’
3 ways to find your parked car
1. Use the Apple Maps notification: You will get a notification after your iPhone automatically remembers where you parked your car. You can tap it to get directions to your vehicle.
2. Ask Siri: Invoke Siri and ask it, ‘Where did I park my car?‘ If you added a note, Siri will show that as well.
3. Use Apple Maps: If you dismissed the automatic notification or asked Siri to manually remember your parking location, open the Apple Maps app on your iPhone or iPad, and you will see a Parked Car option under the Siri Suggestions title on the search screen. Tap it to get the directions to reach your vehicle.
If you tap X on the directions pane, you get to another screen where you can do the following:
- Share button: You can share the location of your parked car with others.
- Directions: Find your way to the car.
- Move: Manually adjust the parked location in case Apple Maps made a minor mistake with the precise location.
- Time: Shows when you parked.
- Note: This lets you type a note. For instance, you can add the phone number of the parking lot employee or something else.
- Add Photos: You can use it to snap a picture of the parking receipt or anything else, like the pillar number that helps you locate your car in a sea of other vehicles.
- Remove Car: Tap it, and your iPhone will forget where you parked this time.
Note: The parked car location does not sync via iCloud. So, if you ask Siri to remember it on your iPhone, it won’t show up on your iPad, and vice versa.
