How the iPhone 15 Pro’s Action button might work in the Camera app

You’ll invoke different features of the stock Camera app on the iPhone 15 Pros depending on the amount of pressure applied to the force-sensitive Action button.
- The rumored Action button on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max could serve different purposes in apps like Camera.
- Also expected: new button combinations for shutting down and force restarting.
- The Action button should be customizable for specific apps on the device.
How will you force restart an iPhone 15 Pro?
Shutting down or restarting any Face ID-enabled iPhone model requires pressing and holding the Volume Up or Volume Down button and the Side button.
Similarly, to force restart an iPhone (also known as hard resetting), you must quickly press and release the Volume Up button, then quickly press and release the Volume Down button and finally press and hold the Side button until the device reboots.
But those button combinations will apparently change with the arrival of the clickable Action button (formerly the Mute switch) on Apple’s upcoming iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models.
According to a tipster behind the Twitter account @analyst941, who previously leaked a bunch of iOS 17 details, the Volume and Side buttons will no longer be used to power off or force-restart the device. “The sequence remains, but the combination will be changed to action and power button,” the tipster explains.
If you missed it, or don’t understand how the capacitive button can be “light” or “hard” pressed: again, the capacitive buttons (incl. action) will be Force-sensitive.
It’s like 3D-touch was, so it will recognize whether you’re just tapping it, lightly pressing it, or hard press

The Action button in the Camera app

The multi-purpose button could be assigned different system actions and features for each supported app. In the Camera app, for example, the Action button will let you focus the camera, take a picture or record video. That’s because the button should have force sensors allowing it to determine how hard the user is pressing it.
Furthermore, within the camera app, the action button (formally; mute switch) will replace the volume up button for taking a photo.
Action button use in Camera:
– Light press: auto-focuses the camera
– Hard press: captures photo
– Hard, Long-hold press: captures/records video

Currently, you can press the Volume Up button to take a picture in the Camera app.
Holding the button will take burst images (if Use Volume Up for Burst is switched on in Settings > Camera). You can also press and hold the Volume Down button to capture a QuickVideo without switching out of the Photo mode.
