WWDC lineup: Apple Keynote
This year’s WWDC keynote address takes place on Monday, June 8 at 10am PDT / 1pm EDT. WWDC keynotes are for everyone, not just for developers. They’re carefully staged and meticulously prepared because the press is watching, fans are following along, blogs are scrutinizing the announcements while the general public usually gets to learn about the latest goodies the next day from their favorite newspapers. “WWDC22 launches with a first look at groundbreaking updates coming to Apple platforms later this year,” Apple says.
In this case, “later this year” refers to the fall when the updates will launch publicly. The iOS 16 beta may arrive a few weeks later in July because Apple wants to ensure that the public beta isn’t too buggy. You will be able to follow along with the keynote via apple.com, the company’s official Apple Developer app, the TV app and on Apple’s YouTube channel. On-demand playback will be available after the conclusion of the stream. Read: How to live stream to Twitch from iPhone, iPad and Mac
WWDC lineup: Platforms State of the Union
Think of Platforms State of the Union as the WWDC keynote for developers. Held the same day as the opening keynote (June 6) in the early afternoon hours at 2pm PDT / 5pm EDT, this is a technical keynote in which Apple delves deep into the latest frameworks, technologies and advances across platforms. You will be able to watch this year’s Platforms State of the Union through the Apple Developer app and via the company’s portal for developers. Read: How to set up your Apple TV the right way
WWDC lineup: Apple Design Awards
The Apple Design Awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on Monday, June 6, late in the afternoon at 5pm PDT / 8pm EDT. This award exists to honor the art, craft, creativity and technical expertise in third-party apps. Every developer of a winning app will get a free AirPods Pro from Apple (along with some WWDC22 outerwear and pin set). The Apple Design Awards will be broadcast through the Apple Developer app and the official Apple Developer website at developer.apple.com.
Labs, sessions and other goodies
Throughout the five-day conference, Apple will stream 150+ deeply technical session videos. These videos are a gold mine of details about upcoming features and new platform capabilities. Session videos will be shared daily on the Apple Developer app and website, beginning June 7.
There will be other activities as well:
In addition to sessions and lab consultations, Apple engineers and designers will host activities all week in Digital Lounges to help developers engage in technical discussions, get answers to their questions, and connect with the community. Try a coding or design challenge, participate in a Q&A, meet session presenters and more.
Lastly, Apple also announced today the winners of its Swift Student Challenge.
