Apple has shared a video in which it goes through some cool tips and tricks for how to shoot and edit “otherworldly photos” using the Night mode feature on recent iPhones.

It was posted to the company’s Apple Support channel on YouTube rather than the main one because it features photographer Maria Lax and Landon (he works with Today at Apple).

Apple also recently shared another useful video highlighting some pretty powerful iPhone filmmaking techniques using tricks like a dramatic lighting effect, forced perspective etc.

Apple’s tips for taking great Night shots with iPhone

In addition to owning an iPhone with Night mode, you may optionally need an Apple Watch to act as a shutter remote and a tripod to stabilize your shots. The presenters used JOBY’s TelePod Mobile All-in-One Tripod, priced at $60, to take crisp night shots seen in the video.

A tripod is recommended due to the way Night mode works.

How Night mode works on iPhone

Night mode automatically flips on when the camera detects a low-light environment, with the icon at the top of the Camera app turning yellow when the feature is active.

“Depending on how dark the scene is, your iPhone might take a Night mode photo quickly, or it might take several seconds,” according to a support document on the Apple website.

Night mode is supported on all iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 models.
