There are several ways you can prove to a potential buyer that your iPhone is unlocked, including crude methods such as pulling out your SIM card and putting one from a different carrier inside. With iOS and iPadOS 14, you can access carrier lock information to quickly verify that an iPhone or iPad is unlocked, and we show you how.

Finding whether an iPhone or iPad is truly unlocked requires iOS 14 or iPadOS 14 and later.

As both updates are currently in testing, only developers and public beta testers are able to use this feature. It will reach all users when when iOS and iPadOS 14 launch publicly this fall.

How to see iPhone carrier lock info in Settings

Follow these steps to see carrier lock information in Settings on an iPhone or cellular iPad:

  1. Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Choose General from the root list.
  3. Tap About.
  4. If you see “No SIM restrictions” next to Carrier Lock, your device is unlocked.

And that’s how you verify whether an iPhone or iPad is truly unlocked.
