iOS 13.6 will save your spot while reading Apple News articles
Earlier this week, Apple seeded the latest beta of iOS and iPadOS 13.6 to developers, and now we know one new addition to the software coming soon to the public.
MacRumors is reporting on Wednesday that a new addition is coming to the Apple News app once iOS 13.6 and iPadOS 13.6 launch to the public at some point in the near future. The publication states that the Apple News app will now keep track of a user’s reading position while they are browsing articles. This will effectively save your spot, just in case you have to stop reading for any reason and need to exit out of the app.
Right now the Apple News app will just revert back to the start of any article you’re trying to read if you exit out of the app or the article. With the latest prerelease software, however, the app will keep tabs on your last reading position, making it easier to restart where you left off.
Interestingly, forum goers at the publication have stated that it takes about 30 seconds for the Apple News app to register a saved spot. That means you’ll need to wait at least half a minute before exiting out of an article if you want the app to remember your spot.
This sounds like a welcomed feature, especially for the longer pieces that are all over Apple News+. Hopefully it isn’t a feature that’s blocked behind the premium subscription service’s paywall, but there does not appear to be any indication of that being the case right now.
In related news, iOS 13.6 is apparently also getting a new audio recording feature ready to go that will be an exclusive Apple News+ feature, more than likely. This will make it possible for the Apple News+ user to have an article read aloud to them, rather than having to read it.
And as far as the beta is concerned, it has been discovered that Apple is going to include a new Symptoms section in the Health app, and that iOS 13.6 will add a new toggle to manage automatic downloads of future software updates.
