Hit the Gym, Visualist, Actiview and other apps to check out this weekend
This week’s edition of our Apps of the Week roundup features a digital workout buddy, an app for giving instructions, and an app for assistive and accessible content. And as always, we’ve selected two cool new games for you to check out.
Hit The Gym
Looking for a workout reminder or motivator? Check out Hit The Gym. The app is a workout planner designed to reduce procrastination and help you make exercising a habit. Just select your gym, set your weekly workout days and set your reminders. Check-ins are GPS-based, so they are nearly instant, and the goal is to turn working out into a real habit. I know there are other apps out there like this—many of which offer a lot more features—but I really like HTG’s interface and sometimes simpler is better.
Visualist
Here is an interesting app. Visualist helps you convert instructions into visual experiences with photos, markups and captions. Use it for simple things like showing a friend or family member how to work a TV or smartphone, or for more complex things like a DIY project. There’s not really much else to it, but…if you find yourself in a position where you need to give instructions and text won’t just cut it, check this app out!
Actiview
Actiview is the all-on-one app for assistive and accessible content for movies you watch at home or in the theater. It works anywhere a movie is playing—no setup required. Features include audio description, amplified audio, audio dubs/translations, closed captioning, sign language interpretation and multi-language subtitles. Before you head to or start a movie, just open Actiview and it will give you everything you need to enjoy the film.
Noa Noa!
Welcome to Not Inc! Here you will find, hatch and raise Noas—rare digital creatures with quirky personalities and mysterious abilities. Features include 30+ cute and bubbly Noas, more than 15 unique eggs, unlockable environments, and customizable avatars. It’s kind of a cross between Pokemon and Tamagotchis, and if that sounds like something you’d be into, be sure to check this game out!
Idle Supermarket Tycoon
Become a supermarket entrepreneur in Idle Supermarket Tycoon. Start with a mini-mart and turn it into a major supermarket chain. Features include amazing 3D graphics and animations, casual and easy gameplay, various challenges to complete and make important managing decisions to expand your business. I know running a virtual Albertson’s doesn’t sound very exciting, but you’d be surprised how fun a game like this can be on a boring Saturday afternoon.
