Apple TV+ film ‘CODA’ is returning to theaters for free in a limited run at the end of February
CODA is one of the best films available to watch on Apple TV+. It has also picked up quite a few award nominations and wins since its debut in 2021. Of course, earning several different Oscar nominations really helps it stand out. And just in case you’re someone who is swayed by those types of nominations, and you feel okay going out to a theater, you’ll be able to see the film on the big screen, at no cost to you, for a limited time.
Apple on Friday officially announced that it is bringing back the Oscar-nominated CODA to select theaters for a very limited run. The film features a predominantly deaf cast, and reached a historic milestone by receiving the Oscar nomination for Best Picture. Meanwhile, Troy Kotsur is the first deaf actor to receive a nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
Apple’s announcement says that the limited theatrical run will start on Friday, February 25, 2022, and run until Sunday, February 27, 2022. The film will be presented in premium theaters with open captions, which means they will be accessible by the deaf and hard of hearing. Per today’s announcement:
“CODA” will be available to screen free of charge in premium theaters in major cities across the country, with three daily showtimes that will be available for audiences to attend on a first come, first served basis. Free screenings will also be available in London. All screenings of “CODA” will be open captioned. Audiences at a special showing in Los Angeles will have the opportunity to be part of a live Q&A with the cast and writer/director Siân Heder, which will have translators in ASL. Information and theater listings may be found here.
CODA premiered in August of 2021, with a theatrical run to kick things off. It’s streaming now for Apple TV+ customers.
