{"id":200228,"date":"2026-08-17T15:11:05","date_gmt":"2026-08-17T19:11:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/midatlanticconsulting.com\/blog\/?p=200228"},"modified":"2026-08-17T15:11:05","modified_gmt":"2026-08-17T19:11:05","slug":"how-to-enable-the-hidden-siri-ui-in-macos-27","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/midatlanticconsulting.com\/blog\/2026\/08\/how-to-enable-the-hidden-siri-ui-in-macos-27\/","title":{"rendered":"How to enable the hidden Siri UI in macOS 27"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In this step-by-step tutorial, we show you how to use a simple Terminal command to enable a secret, lightweight Siri interface that appears when you select text and helps you rewrite it or take another relevant action.<span id=\"more-1060972\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1060974\" src=\"https:\/\/media.idownloadblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/New-Siri-icon-in-macOS-27.jpg\" alt=\"New Siri icon in macOS 27\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" \/> <\/p>\n<p>If you have updated your Mac to macOS 27 Golden Gate beta or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.idownloadblog.com\/2026\/06\/16\/install-macos-27-on-partition\/\">installed this unreleased version on a partition<\/a>, you can use a simple Terminal command to unhide a Siri feature that helps you check, edit, and transform your writing.<\/p>\n<p> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1060975\" src=\"https:\/\/media.idownloadblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Tiny-Siri-icon-after-selecting-text-in-macOS-27.jpg\" alt=\"Tiny Siri icon after selecting text in macOS 27\" width=\"1844\" height=\"1365\" \/> <\/p>\n<p>All you&#8217;ll have to do is select text in a writing app like Notes or TextEdit, and then click a tiny Siri icon to reveal relevant options, shown in the screenshot below.<\/p>\n<p>Options include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Editing with Siri<\/li>\n<li>Asking how your current text sounds<\/li>\n<li>Rewriting it in a friendly, professional, or concise manner<\/li>\n<li>And proofreading your words to fix grammatical and other issues<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1060978\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1060978\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1060978 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/media.idownloadblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Siri-writing-tools-in-macOS-27.jpg\" alt=\"Siri writing tools in macOS 27\" width=\"1962\" height=\"1375\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>In addition, you may also see options to add to contacts, message or email, create an event, open in Maps, track a flight, or track packages when you select relevant text like a phone number, email address, map address, flight number, tracking number, and so forth.<\/p>\n<p>If you think this Siri UI would be helpful, then here&#8217;s how to enable it (thanks to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/MacOSBeta\/comments\/1v0hvjd\/macos_27_has_a_hidden_lightweight_ui_for_siri_ai\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pdfu<\/a> for this tip).<\/p>\n<p>Hopefully, Apple adds a simpler way to turn this on or off in System Settings when macOS 27 Golden Gate releases publicly in the fall for everyday users with an Apple silicon Mac.<\/p>\n<h2>Show a hidden Siri UI in macOS 27<\/h2>\n<p><strong>1)<\/strong> Update your Mac to the latest version of macOS 27 developer beta.<\/p>\n<p><em>Note:<\/em> The original poster (pdfu) says this Siri UI is enabled by default in developer beta 4 and public beta 2, but it wasn&#8217;t the case on my MacBook running macOS 27 developer beta 5. You can check by creating a simple TextEdit document and selecting the text a few times. If it doesn&#8217;t show, follow the remaining steps.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2)<\/strong> Make sure Siri is set up correctly, and you have not switched from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.idownloadblog.com\/2026\/08\/14\/use-siri-classic\/\">Siri AI to Siri Classic<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3)<\/strong> Open Terminal.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4)<\/strong> Copy and paste the following command and press the <kbd>return<\/kbd> \/ <kbd>enter<\/kbd> key.<\/p>\n<p><code>sudo mkdir -p \/Library\/Preferences\/FeatureFlags\/Domain &amp;&amp; sudo defaults write \/Library\/Preferences\/FeatureFlags\/Domain\/WritingTools LightweightUI_macOS -dict Enabled -bool true<\/code><\/p>\n<p> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1060976\" src=\"https:\/\/media.idownloadblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Terminal-command-to-show-secret-Siri-popover-in-macOS-27.png\" alt=\"Terminal command to show secret Siri popover in macOS 27\" width=\"550\" height=\"365\" \/> <\/p>\n<p><strong>5)<\/strong> Type your Mac&#8217;s password and press the <kbd>return<\/kbd> \/ <kbd>enter<\/kbd> key. Note that typing your password in Terminal does not show any visual confirmation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>6)<\/strong> Restart your computer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>7)<\/strong> Now, select text in Notes, Text Edit, and other such apps (all third-party apps may not work).
