{"id":200224,"date":"2026-08-15T13:59:05","date_gmt":"2026-08-15T17:59:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/midatlanticconsulting.com\/blog\/?p=200224"},"modified":"2026-08-15T13:59:05","modified_gmt":"2026-08-15T17:59:05","slug":"how-to-switch-back-to-old-siri-instead-of-siri-ai-in-ios-27","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/midatlanticconsulting.com\/blog\/2026\/08\/how-to-switch-back-to-old-siri-instead-of-siri-ai-in-ios-27\/","title":{"rendered":"How to switch back to old Siri instead of Siri AI in iOS 27"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Learn how to get back the classic Siri without all its new AI capabilities on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac running iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 Golden Gate beta.<span id=\"more-1060916\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1060919\" src=\"https:\/\/media.idownloadblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Siri-Classic-in-iOS-27.jpg\" alt=\"Siri Classic in iOS 27\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1500\" \/> <\/p>\n<p>For context, Apple&#8217;s latest versions of iOS, iPadOS, and macOS bring a major Siri overhaul powered by a custom Gemini model running in the background.<\/p>\n<p> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1058903\" src=\"https:\/\/media.idownloadblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Using-new-Siri-on-iPhone-with-new-animation.jpg\" alt=\"Using new Siri on iPhone with new animation\" width=\"350\" height=\"695\" \/> <\/p>\n<p>Thanks to this new Apple-Google partnership, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.idownloadblog.com\/2026\/06\/11\/get-siri-ai\/\">the new Siri<\/a> is significantly improved and understands commands better.<\/p>\n<p>Plus, there is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.idownloadblog.com\/2026\/08\/06\/customize-siri-app\/\">Siri app<\/a> that&#8217;s much like ChatGPT, Grok, and Claude. But note that Apple has limited some aspects of the Siri app (for example, you can&#8217;t code using the Siri app).<\/p>\n<p>All things considered, Siri is now close to what the general public has always imagined a voice assistant to be. That said, if you don&#8217;t want to use the new Siri AI, Apple offers a way to opt out.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some reasons not to use the new Siri AI:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The new Siri has <strong>personal context<\/strong>, which can dig deeper into your app data like Messages to provide relevant answers, and you don&#8217;t want that to happen (even though Apple says it has taken measures to protect your privacy and data security).<\/li>\n<li>You mostly use Siri for basics like alarms, timers, calls, etc., and these commands actually still work faster in the old Siri.<\/li>\n<li>You don&#8217;t like the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.idownloadblog.com\/2020\/08\/07\/enhanced-search-in-apps-iphone-ipad\/\">Spotlight Search<\/a> that comes by default in iOS 27 and want to switch back to the old search.<\/li>\n<li>The new Siri in beta is buggy for you and causes random issues.<\/li>\n<li>You don&#8217;t want your child to use the new Siri AI, as AI can make mistakes and give answers that aren&#8217;t always appropriate.<\/li>\n<li>You&#8217;re fundamentally opposed to AI and don&#8217;t want to use it for reasons best known to you.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Block new Siri AI and opt for classic Siri<\/h2>\n<p>You can make this change on one or all of your devices. If you&#8217;re doing this on your child&#8217;s device, make sure you have set up <a href=\"https:\/\/www.idownloadblog.com\/2025\/11\/28\/set-screen-time-passcode\/\">Screen Time passcode<\/a> for them.<\/p>\n<h3>iPhone or iPad<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1)<\/strong> Open the <strong>Settings app<\/strong> on your device <a href=\"https:\/\/www.idownloadblog.com\/2026\/06\/09\/install-ios-27\/\">running iOS 27 or iPadOS 27<\/a> (currently both are in beta).<\/p>\n<p><strong>2)<\/strong> Tap <strong>Screen Time<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3)<\/strong> Tap <strong>Content &amp; Privacy Restrictions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4)<\/strong> Enable <strong>Content &amp; Privacy Restrictions<\/strong> if it&#8217;s off, then tap <strong>Siri<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1060921\" src=\"https:\/\/media.idownloadblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Siri-settings-in-iPhone-restrictions.png\" alt=\"Siri settings in iPhone restrictions\" width=\"1676\" height=\"1665\" \/> <\/p>\n<p><strong>5)<\/strong> Tap <strong>Siri<\/strong> and select <strong>Siri Classic<\/strong> in place of <em>Siri AI (beta)<\/em>. You can also totally block Siri (both AI and Classic versions) from here.<\/p>\n<p> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1060920\" src=\"https:\/\/media.idownloadblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Switching-to-Classic-Siri-in-iOS-27-Settings-app.png\" alt=\"Switching to Classic Siri in iOS 27 Settings app\" width=\"1676\" height=\"1665\" \/> <\/p>\n<p><strong>6)<\/strong> Now, restart your iPhone or iPad. Skipping this step may not always apply the change made above.<\/p>\n<p><strong>7)<\/strong> After restarting, invoke Siri, and it should not show the new iOS 27 oval Siri AI orb but the previous Apple Intelligence edge glow animation or the old circular purple orb.<\/p>\n<p> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1060923\" src=\"https:\/\/media.idownloadblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Old-Siri-and-Classic-Siri-with-edge-animation-in-iOS-27.jpg\" alt=\"Old Siri and Classic Siri with edge animation in iOS 27\" width=\"1676\" height=\"1665\" \/> <\/p>\n<p>Additionally, opening the new Siri app will throw an error, as shown in the screenshot below. However, you can still access your past conversations in the Siri app.<\/p>\n<p> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1060922\" src=\"https:\/\/media.idownloadblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Siri-Al-is-Not-Available-popup-on-iPhone.png\" alt=\"Siri Al is Not Available popup on iPhone\" width=\"350\" height=\"695\" \/> <\/p>\n<h3>Mac<\/h3>\n<p>The steps are similar to iOS.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Open <strong>System Settings<\/strong> on your computer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.idownloadblog.com\/2026\/06\/16\/install-macos-27-on-partition\/\">running macOS 27 Golden Gate<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Select <strong>Screen Time<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Content &amp; Privacy<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Make sure <strong>Content &amp; Privacy<\/strong> is switched on, and click <strong>Siri<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Set Siri to <strong>Siri (Classic)<\/strong> in place of Siri AI (Beta), then click <strong>Done<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Restart your Mac to get back the old Siri.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1060917\" src=\"https:\/\/media.idownloadblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Opting-to-use-Siri-Classic-on-Mac.jpg\" alt=\"Opting to use Siri Classic on Mac\" width=\"1546\" height=\"1400\" \/> <\/p>\n<p>If System Settings gets stuck while you&#8217;re following the steps above, quit it and try again; it should work.<\/p>\n<p>Any day you want to use Siri AI, follow the steps above again and enable it.
