But for the best experience, make sure your devices are running the latest versions of iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS Tahoe 26.<\/p>\n<h2>Turn categories off and back on<\/h2>\n<p>The Apple Mail app lets you enable categories for all email accounts added to the device (All Inboxes) or just a selected inbox (like your iCloud, Gmail, or Outlook account).<\/p>\n<h3>iOS<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Open the <strong>Mail app<\/strong> on your iPhone or iPad.<\/li>\n<li>Go to All Inboxes or a particular account inbox.<\/li>\n<li>Tap the <strong>three-dot menu icon<\/strong>, then select <strong>Categories<\/strong>. In case your emails aren&#8217;t already categorized, click the <strong>settings icon<\/strong> at the top and check\/uncheck <strong>Show Categories<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1058358\" src=\"https:\/\/media.idownloadblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Show-Categories-in-Mail-on-iCloud-web.jpg\" alt=\"Show Categories in Mail on iCloud web\" width=\"1602\" height=\"698\" \/> <\/p>\n<h2>Wait for a while and restart your device<\/h2>\n<p>If you have a massive inbox, your iPhone, iPad, Mac, or iCloud may take a while (like 5 minutes or more) to work its magic and classify your emails into proper categories. So, give it some time.<\/p>\n<p>In case you have already waited a while to no success, simply <a href=\"https:\/\/www.idownloadblog.com\/2023\/01\/23\/how-to-turn-off-and-turn-on-iphone-ipad\/\">restart<\/a> your iPhone, iPad, or Mac and check if email categories appear. If they don&#8217;t, try these easy steps:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Open the Mail app and don&#8217;t <a href=\"https:\/\/www.idownloadblog.com\/2021\/11\/01\/how-to-force-quit-apps-iphone-ipad\/\">force quit<\/a> it.<\/li>\n<li>Make sure your iPhone or iPad is connected to Wi-Fi and leave it charging overnight.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Reset email categorization<\/h2>\n<p>If the above problems haven&#8217;t helped, reset categorization by following these steps:<\/p>\n<p><strong>1)<\/strong> Visit <a href=\"http:\/\/icloud.com\/mail\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">icloud.com\/mail<\/a> and sign in.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2)<\/strong> Click the <strong>gear icon<\/strong> and select <strong>Settings<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3)<\/strong> Go to the <strong>Categories<\/strong> section from the left sidebar.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4)<\/strong> Click <strong>Turn Off Categorization and Cleanup<\/strong> and confirm.<\/p>\n<p> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1058360\" src=\"https:\/\/media.idownloadblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Turn-Off-Categorization-and-Cleanup-in-iCloud-Mail-settings.jpg\" alt=\"Turn Off Categorization and Cleanup in iCloud Mail settings\" width=\"2940\" height=\"1846\" \/> <\/p>\n<p><strong>5)<\/strong> Wait about 5 minutes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>6)<\/strong> Follow the above steps again and <strong>Turn On Categorization<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1058361\" src=\"https:\/\/media.idownloadblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Turn-On-Categorization-in-Mail-app-settings-on-iCloud.jpg\" alt=\"Turn On Categorization in Mail app settings on iCloud\" width=\"2940\" height=\"1846\" \/> <\/p>\n<h2>The Mail categories feature isn&#8217;t available in all countries and regions<\/h2>\n<p>Apple has a nice <a href=\"https:\/\/www.apple.com\/ios\/feature-availability\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">iOS Feature Availability page<\/a> that shows exactly which countries and languages a particular service is available in. However, it doesn&#8217;t mention Mail categories, even though another Apple Support page confirms that this feature isn&#8217;t available in all countries and with all languages.<\/p>\n<p>According to user reports, it seems like Mail categories will work only if your device language is set to English: like English (Australia), English (Canada), English (India), English (Ireland), English (New Zealand), English (Singapore), English (South Africa), English (UK), and English (U.S.).<\/p>\n<h2>Sign out of your account and sign back in<\/h2>\n<p>In case the problem continues, sign out of the email accounts from the iOS or macOS Mail app and try turning on email categories once again.<\/p>\n<h3>iCloud email account<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Open iOS <strong>Settings<\/strong> or macOS <strong>System Settings<\/strong> and go to <strong>your Apple Account<\/strong> from the top.<\/li>\n<li>Select <strong>iCloud<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Mail<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Turn off the sync switch.<\/li>\n<li>Restart your device and open the Mail app. You won&#8217;t see your iCloud account there.<\/li>\n<li>Now repeat steps 1 and 2, then turn the sync switch back on.<\/li>\n<li>Re-open the Mail app and check if categories work.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1058357\" src=\"https:\/\/media.idownloadblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Mail-turned-off-in-iCloud-settings-on-iPhone.jpg\" alt=\"Mail turned off in iCloud settings on iPhone\" width=\"1676\" height=\"1665\" \/> <\/p>\n<h3>Gmail, Outlook, or other email accounts<\/h3>\n<p>You can turn off the Mail switch or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.idownloadblog.com\/2019\/05\/24\/delete-email-account-on-iphone-ipad-mac-mail\/\">completely delete and re-add the email account<\/a> by following these steps:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>iOS: <strong>Settings<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Apps<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Mail<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Mail Accounts<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>macOS: <strong>System Settings<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Internet Accounts<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Delete the Mail app and try again<\/h2>\n<p>You can uninstall and reinstall the iOS Mail app on your iPhone or iPad, just like any other app from the App Store. But before you do that, go to <strong>Settings<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Apps<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Default Apps<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Email<\/strong>, and select Gmail or some other email app as your default. Then, restart your iPhone or iPad and <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.apple.com\/app\/mail\/id1108187098\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">download the Mail app again from the App Store<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re on iCloud web, open a private Safari window and sign in there.<\/p>\n<p>And if you&#8217;re on a Mac, you cannot delete and reinstall the Mail app, but you can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.idownloadblog.com\/2021\/12\/08\/how-to-reset-apple-mail-app\/\">fully reset it by following the steps here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>After reinstalling or resetting the Mail app, make sure your email accounts are added, and then try using categories.
