Learn how to mark your AirTag as lost and add your phone number and email so the person who finds it can contact you to return the item.<\/span><\/p>\n

Just like iPhone<\/a>, you can activate your missing AirTag or supported third-party Find My network trackers<\/a> in Lost mode.<\/p>\n

Lost Mode lets you display a message and your phone number or email address to inform the finder that the item is lost.<\/p>\n

When a person finds your lost AirTag or third-party tracker, they can use their iPhone or NFC-capable Android phone to visit Apple’s webpage that shows your Lost Mode message and phone number.<\/p>\n

Activate Lost Mode for AirTag or other items<\/h2>\n

1)<\/strong> Open the Find My app<\/strong> on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.<\/p>\n

2)<\/strong> Go to the Items<\/strong> tab and select your missing AirTag or third-party item tracker.<\/p>\n

3)<\/strong> Tap Show Contact Info<\/strong> in the Lost AirTag<\/em> section.<\/p>\n

4)<\/strong> Read more about this and tap Continue<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

5)<\/strong> Enter your phone number so the finder can contact you and tap Continue<\/strong>. If you don’t want to disclose your mobile number, tap Use an Email Address<\/strong> and type that instead.<\/p>\n

\"Entering <\/p>\n

6)<\/strong> Make sure the \u201cNotify When Found<\/strong>\u201d switch is enabled so you get a notification alert when your missing AirTag comes in contact with other iPhones, iPads, or Macs and relays its location to you. Review the phone number and the Lost Mode message (which, unlike on iPhone, you can’t customize for AirTags), then tap Show Information<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\"Lost <\/p>\n

Lost Mode is successfully activated on this AirTag or a third-party Find My network tracker. Now, all you can hope for is that a kind person finds your item attached to an AirTag and knows how to see your contact information so they can return it to you.<\/p>\n

How the finder can see your contact information to return the item<\/h2>\n

When a person finds your AirTag or other tracker, they will have to hold the white part of the AirTag near the top portion of their iPhone or NFC-capable Android phone to visit found.apple.com<\/em> and see the Lost Mode message and your phone number or email address.<\/p>\n

Tip:<\/em> Remember to turn on NFC on Android phone from the quick settings panel.<\/p>\n

They can also use Apple’s Tracker Detect Android app<\/a> to learn more about the AirTag. But it’s a poorly rated app that doesn’t work very reliably.<\/p>\n

Change your phone number or turn off Lost Mode<\/h2>\n

  1. Open the Find My app and select your AirTag in the Items<\/em> section.<\/li>\n
  2. Tap Show Contact Info<\/strong> in the Lost AirTag<\/em> section.<\/li>\n
  3. Edit the phone number or email address and tap the checkmark icon. Or, to turn off Lost Mode, tap Remove Contact Info<\/strong> or Stop Showing Information<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
