{"id":199854,"date":"2026-04-29T12:38:03","date_gmt":"2026-04-29T16:38:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/midatlanticconsulting.com\/blog\/?p=199854"},"modified":"2026-04-29T12:38:03","modified_gmt":"2026-04-29T16:38:03","slug":"how-to-put-your-airtag-or-other-tracker-in-lost-mode","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/midatlanticconsulting.com\/blog\/2026\/04\/how-to-put-your-airtag-or-other-tracker-in-lost-mode\/","title":{"rendered":"How to put your AirTag or other tracker in Lost Mode"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Learn how to mark your AirTag as lost and add your phone number and email so the person who finds it can contact you to return the item.<span id=\"more-1057641\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.idownloadblog.com\/2012\/09\/20\/find-my-iphone-lost-mode\/\">Just like iPhone<\/a>, you can activate your missing AirTag or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.idownloadblog.com\/2021\/04\/09\/add-third-party-find-my-accessories-tutorial\/\">supported third-party Find My network trackers<\/a> in Lost mode.<\/p>\n<p>Lost Mode lets you display a message and your phone number or email address to inform the finder that the item is lost.<\/p>\n<p>When a person finds your lost AirTag or third-party tracker, they can use their iPhone or NFC-capable Android phone to visit Apple&#8217;s webpage that shows your Lost Mode message and phone number.<\/p>\n<h2>Activate Lost Mode for AirTag or other items<\/h2>\n<p><strong>1)<\/strong> Open the <strong>Find My app<\/strong> on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2)<\/strong> Go to the <strong>Items<\/strong> tab and select your missing AirTag or third-party item tracker.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3)<\/strong> Tap <strong>Show Contact Info<\/strong> in the <em>Lost AirTag<\/em> section.<\/p>\n<p> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1057653\" src=\"https:\/\/media.idownloadblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Show-Contact-Info-option-for-AirTag-in-Find-My-app-on-iPhone.png\" alt=\"Show Contact Info option for AirTag in Find My app on iPhone\" width=\"1676\" height=\"1665\" \/> <\/p>\n<p><strong>4)<\/strong> Read more about this and tap <strong>Continue<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5)<\/strong> Enter your phone number so the finder can contact you and tap <strong>Continue<\/strong>. Review the phone number and the Lost Mode message (which, unlike on iPhone, you can&#8217;t customize for AirTags), then tap <strong>Show Information<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1057648\" src=\"https:\/\/media.idownloadblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Lost-Mode-Activated-on-AirTag.png\" alt=\"Lost Mode Activated on AirTag\" width=\"1676\" height=\"1665\" \/> <\/p>\n<p>Lost Mode is successfully activated on this AirTag or a third-party Find My network tracker. Now, all you can hope for is that a kind person finds your item attached to an AirTag and knows how to see your contact information so they can return it to you.<\/p>\n<h2>How the finder can see your contact information to return the item<\/h2>\n<p>When a person finds your AirTag or other tracker, they will have to hold the white part of the AirTag near the top portion of their iPhone or NFC-capable Android phone to visit <em>found.apple.com<\/em> and see the Lost Mode message and your phone number or email address.<\/p>\n<p> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1057650\" src=\"https:\/\/media.idownloadblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Seeing-Lost-AirTag-details-on-iPhone.jpg\" alt=\"Seeing Lost AirTag details on iPhone\" width=\"1716\" height=\"1665\" \/> <\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s how it looks on Android:<\/p>\n<p> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1057651\" src=\"https:\/\/media.idownloadblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Seeing-Lost-Mode-AirTag-details-on-Android-phone.png\" alt=\"Seeing Lost Mode AirTag details on Android phone\" width=\"350\" height=\"739\" \/> <\/p>\n<p><em>Tip:<\/em> Remember to turn on NFC on Android phone from the quick settings panel.<\/p>\n<p> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1057649\" src=\"https:\/\/media.idownloadblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/NFC-enabled-on-Android-phone.png\" alt=\"NFC enabled on Android phone\" width=\"350\" height=\"739\" \/> <\/p>\n<p>They can also use <a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.apple.trackerdetect\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Apple&#8217;s Tracker Detect Android app<\/a> to learn more about the AirTag.
